+Mark Roman Hi Mark in California I paid under $4,000 , boat and motor. To order the boat it took over 3 months. The cost of this boat varies depending where it is shipped size and weight plays a big part in cost.//www.porta-bote.com/
Hi Bill, I won't say I'm giving up on kayaking. Kayaking was really fun and an easy way to get closer to fish. I haven't taken the Porta Bote out yet but I'm sure it will be a faster way to set up and get to the fishing grounds faster. As for the AI verse PB , I'd vote Hobie Adventure Island. I have hours of AI raw video's and someday when I have the time I will post them to help others. At this moment I'm getting the PB ready for fishing in August thru November.
I just pulled mine out :-), no cutting. Looks like your delivery was much
smoother. I knew the boat was tough as the packaging looked like it went
through hell to get to me :-). I
like your idea with these rubber bands, I was hoping to replace wing nuts
with safety pins. Think porta-bote got too many wing nuts leftover from
the earlier model.
With the motor mount board I have no issues it does not get to flap around
too much.
Sorry your delivery was rough incoming, that's always my worst nightmare of any package.I don't like the wing nuts and I don't like the threaded rod either cause in time it will act as a hack saw chipping away the aluminum , planning to replace it soon with a smooth SS bolt.My motor mount board gives me problem as I'm closing the bote, the Velcro now corrects the problem.
Hey Rudy, That is a genius way to get a around if you don't like to trailer
something. Can you make a video of you using that boat at capitola because
I'm if your going to unload it like a kayak or get ed at the shop and lower
that with a crane. Something fun to see. I'm really interested about this
boat. I wonder if it comes in a 15 or 16 foot boat.lol
Hi there Laughing Man,I've been always afraid of that crane breaking loose and all my gear sinks to the bottom.. I recommend Santa Cruz Boat Launch , better parking and not too far from Capitola fishing grounds. I'll be heading out there soon, I just have to finish up with the honey do list and GAME ON.............
Rudy, What kind of outboard are you planning to put on your PB? Given your
modification tendency, I'm sure you will firm up the mount and put
something larger than the 10 hp that's recommended by the PB's website.
I started a wp site //myportaboteadventure.com/ will publish some of the how-to and my experiences there. this weekend I will be spending on shore but the following I am going to hit the mongoap again in search of 2lb brown trout. will take a video of the motor at 100% as well as underwater.
+Konstantin Shushkovsky Yeah the new transom seems great being apart of the PB one less part to carry , but dependable it's still has to be tested to the limit. I think this boat is just to put you on top of the fish and cruise with caution , those who want to push it to the limit I give them two thumbs up .Looking forward for that video of your(TRANSOM SHAKE)on the PB , that would be a great hit video for any Porta Bote Forum.
+RUDYAKAHALIBU77Thanks. I do want to get another prop I was thinking //www.kipawapropellers.com. And all i have left after that is to wait for price drop on //www.batteryspace.com/lifepo4-prismatic-battery-12-8v-200ah-2560wh-10c-rate---un38-3-passed-3-2vx4-dgr.aspxOther though is that I see my transom flex when using the motor, I will try to take a video of that next time and perhaps motor use and sonar use overall...
+Konstantin ShushkovskyYour not doing anything wrong , Riptide 55 doesn't give that much power.I owned one for 2 months and used it on my Hobie Adventure Island going 4-5 mph. Your using it pushing two pasangers.
+RUDYAKAHALIBU77it is possible I am doing something wrong as i never had anything with a motor and no wheels but that is what it is. also Riptide seems to give a little vibration at full. I got it for the same reasons as you to be able to take it out in bay and marshes but i would not trust it to fight the current. in any case you can see the position on my video, if you can tell from that if i am doing something wrong please do. BTW I was trolling at .6 to 1.2 MPH making roughly 2 circles around this lake //www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/61507.html. than I went into the river and back out. I ran at full not for long, maybe 10-20 min out of the full day, mostly I was at 30 to 50%
+Konstantin Shushkovsky OMG that some serious drag but for the lakes I'd be ok with that speed I'd just have to bring an extra batter cuz I like to troll. Thanks Buddy for the input I appreciate it.
+RUDYAKAHALIBU77You may want to consider going 24V on this. I just got the riptide 55lb transom with battery maximizer for my 12' porta-bote... with me and my brother and gear the best it did was 3.5 MPH (i think wind was in our back). At 70% it did around 2 - 2.5 MPH. battery consumption was good, the motor tester showed 2 out of 4 bars went we came ashore at the end of 9 hour day on the water. Battery I used was the 94 AH from walmart (decided 110 AH was too heavy for my back).
I bought the Suzuki 6hp 4-stroke and will be adding the Minn Kota Riptide 55/SC/T Saltwater Trolling Motor along side for back up . The Minn Kota will also be used in all the Lakes and the Delta I will run this boat. Next year if I'm not satisfied with the 6hp I will buy the Suzuki 9.9hp 4 stroke. The area's I'll be fishing the 6hp should do great. The new design of the Porta Bote transom looks and I do believe is a awesome upgrade. The 14' Porta Bote will allow me to design a small cuddy cabin for safety gear, deep-cycle battery and other equipment need on the water. Bow heavy will benefit planning in and out of the fishing grounds. This Boat is a folding boat made for people to enjoy , if an owner of a Porta Bote wanted to take it to the limit I'd suggest them to save your money and buy an aluminum boat made for that purpose. Don't get me wrong I support those brave Youtuber's who luv pushing the imagination to the limit, we are human and enjoy being challenged.

+Trevor Holley No the motor is not bolted , and yes if your next question is........Can the motor unmount itself ? I always attach the lanyard kill switch in case the motor decides to go another direction especially in reverse .I always go at a safe speed and always adjusting the throttle in choppy conditions.
Hey all. Just got a PB 10' and bought a new Suzuki DF4 to go with it. Not
sure why I went with the 4, but now I regret not going with the 6 because
they are the same identical weight and specifications. I am hoping the 4
will work for me, but I would love the extra power. Have you, or anyone
out there heard about people modifying the engine to get more RPM (HP) out
of them? Loved the videos! Thx!
+Tampa Bay Laser Tag Congrats on your new vessel Captain !Your gonna luv the way you can fold the boat that is the best feature. I wouldn't worry so much about speed, your on the water and can go any spots on the Lake that land anglers can't. I once wanted to go a little faster and I'm sure Lamborghini drivers felt that way to till it crashed and burnt. Remember your out to fish and getting one spot to the next and back to land safe is the way to go.Have fun enjoy your boat and catch a lot of fish.Tips pack light , safety gear and equally balance your boat will help with speed.
+steve noe wow sorry I don't know how I missed this comment.FLEX........ Yes to all of the above.Porta Bote is made of Polypropylene Copolymer very flexible and extremely tough. The Hull , freeboard and transom is always flexing on the move. I've own a few boat but never a folding one, I had to try it.It felt like I was on a waterbed as my friend Hai mentioned. It took time getting use to it trust was the key and back up plans if it sank. I bought an electric motor incase the gas outboard fail. I also had 3 hi-vis inflatable pool rafts to abandon ship easier to swim to land with instead of floating around in neck high water .With all the safety gear and back up plans I went boating with full trust in the Porta Bote. I'd recommend if you want speed and capacity buy a standard boat. If you fish shallow lakes or shallow Bays Porta Boat will take you anywhere. Just keep in mind if any boat can float it can sink as well.//www.porta-bote.com/faq/break
How's it going , SF weather hasn't been the best for kayak and boaters so I've just been fixing up old projects around the house : ) Pacifica Pier crabbing is starting to pick up so that's something to do for awhile. Trout fishing is great across the Bay. With all this rain weather you can try Sturgeon if you have the patients. April showers bring out the flowers in May. That's the time I'll be getting busy , see you soon.
Nice congrats. Was there anything wrong or something you didn't like about
the PB or was it just time to get a bigger one and the opportunity came?
Would you recommend the PB 14' to others? Thanks for the response.
Hi Mike, being out on the water is all I think about. After being on a boat your gonna either love it or hate it. In California there are many places you can bring a boat or kayak to go fishing or just hang out. As you can see in my PB video's I've only owned it for 5 months and caught many fish. If you own a kayak storage space plays a big part . The only reason I bought the PB is because of the folding feature. Id recommend the 14' with the 6hp
