Greg Hansen: Utah's loss to Oregon
Greg and Ryan discuss just how costly Kaelin Clay's mistake will cost.
Most black & white TVs made after color TV became common in the 1960s
include a lowpass filter to prevent the color subcarrier from causing noise
on the picture, so at least theoretically, there would be no visual benefit
to feeding it with a pure black & white signal, because it would just
filter out the extra video bandwidth (and thus higher resolution) that a
B&W signal is capable of. However, this one might be cheap enough that it
lacks such a filter.
I had one of these TG&Y TV's in the early 1980's that I took to college,
and it was a good solid TV. Then my parents kept it for years as a backup
TV when the cable went out because it had a built in antenna and a really
good tuner. They finally got rid of it when TV went digital.
Gotta love 240p mode scan lines. Our old circa 1977 Sanyo B&W is still
kicking. I pulled it out of the attic after a few years of non-use and it
fired up without a problem. I have to open it up and blow it out though
because the pile of dust in it started to burn leaving a nice odor.
I used to have one that looked very similar to that with a Sears name brand
on it, I used it with my Atari 2600. I also have a Sampo color 10 or 13
inch that has an amazing picture still.
By the way, what's 'TG&Y'? I'm from Australia, and have never heard of that
brand? I'm guessing it's a re-badged set for a specific department
store/franchise?
Sampo? I found a 21" B&W SAMPO CCTV monitor, though had to take it to the
dump. That's a nice television! I like my 1970's and 1980's colour sets
though!
