All that talking and no filter on the camera. We wanna see you work!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
No , I just mean a lot of welders have a filter on so you can see the welding well. I didn't mean you talk too much. It was very good I just wanted to see the weld job, how it flows. sorry.

+Guitar Dude   OK, so let me see if I understand you correctly, A twelve and a half minute video where I'm over narrating [as you pointed out] a simple repair and walking you through every step of that repair, and then at the conclusion of that repair, I recap the whole process again, and that's not enough because I don't have a filter to show you my perspective of the 30 seconds of welding???  I'm really not sure I can do much better than that, almost 14,000 other people didn't seem to think it was a problem, but I do appreciate the comment......       Mike

try a 2% lanthanated tungsten sharpened to a point - I have an equally old and reliable Miller Dialarc HF and the pointed tungsten is a lot nicer than the blunt ball to place the arc were you want it.

+bob14219  Hi Bob, I have been considering trying some of the newer tungsten's, I have been recommended quite a few of them by different people, so I will be doing that soon, might even make for a good future video to test and show the different results.  Thanks for the suggestion ...... Mike

Hey Mike I copied your info on the 4145 rods, but cannot find them, can you tell me the supplier as i would like to get some to try welding up some rice planter plunger housings that always crack, they are packed with grease when working so difficult to get 100% clean, i have even tried to clean in ultrasonic cleaner bath but still get some issues so thought i might try these rods

+Marc Godwin  Hi Marc, If I'm going to be getting at least 5 pounds of filler wire I usually get it thru an Airgas distributor, they seem to be willing to get almost any alloy I ask for and also seem to have enough purchasing power to get that small a quantity without fuss or delay at a reasonable price. If I just want a pound or so of a particular alloy, I have been getting it from a company called Arc Zone in California, they seem to have almost any alloy you would like in as small as a 1 pound quantity, and they too ship it out quickly, of course, it's priced accordingly, but I've been OK with that so far.  I don't think the 4145 alloy will help with a dirty oil soaked condition, in fact the extra silicon in the 4043 might be the best for dealing with that, it does however seem to really "mix" or wet out much better than any of the other alloys I have tried for cast aluminum. I would think the ultrasonic cleaning would be the best way to deal with the contamination, maybe to double check the results of it, you could put a torch to the cracked area prior to the welding to see if anything bakes out of it, if not, perhaps it is just a poor quality casting, and the 4145 alloy would help.     I just repaired a very dirty oily cast aluminum flywheel housing from a Cummins engine yesterday, and I was able to get it cleaned up with a few rounds of lacquer thinner/torch treatments, it had to be able to take weld throughout the entire cracked area, as the engine side of it is wet, and of course, must be sealed, and with the additional cleaning, preheat, and the 4145 filler, it was a successful repair. Good luck with the repair, and let me know how it turns out.  Thanks for the question.      Mike

Nice video , if I had the space an old transformer machine will just run forever. Short term on cooler water pump noise sheet metal shield with soft material might attenuate noise . Suggestion old(cheap) auto darkening helmet for camera ?

Hi E,  I have tried about everything to lessen the sound coming out of that cooler, I'm convinced it's more of a harmonics/frequency problem than anything else, I've actually in the process of building a replacement cooler, so there will be some upcoming videos about it. Thanks for the suggestion and the comment.      Mike
