William Holden detested making this film as he considered himself too old to play against Kim Novak. Rumor has it he was intoxicated doing the dance scene with Novak on the dock.

+Ray Opezzo Holden had just turned 37 when filming began and was 15 years older than Novak. However, the hard living and drinking actor looked older and was dead at 61. Novak still going strong at 82.

William\m Holden lived  (and passed away) 5 blocks from me on Ocean Avenue, I never saw his movies and had no idea what a heart throb he was!

the dance scene is one of the most romantic that i have seen in any movie..And when he looks at her with that misty expression in his eyes,i am left gasping. william holden was just too sexy.

+charles popeInteresting.  Plus THAT incredible score "Moon Glow" (I believe) added such passionate intensity to the scene.  The whole thing was just so superbly executed.  I miss original instrumental film scores.  Now they have to use popular singers belting out crass lyrics, so overdone.

Holden thought he was too old for the part of Hal.  Also, he didnt take to dancing at all and what you see was a lot of work by him. It didn't matter . Mr Howe made this scene a memorable one...

...and they didn't take off one stitch of clothing.  Imagine that?  This is the most passionate and romantic scene ever.  There is no equal in cinematography history, as far as I'm concerned.
