Book Review: Polish Your Poise
Hope you enjoy this book review! Polish Your Poise by Jennifer L. Scott Release Day: Oct. 27, 2015 Preorder available on many website including Amazon.com ...
Teri, I so agree with you about today's society, it is so disappointing to
me to see young people swearing around their children and in the office
place. I don't consider myself a prude or an angel by any means but in
general society and around young children I always watch how and what I
say. It's just the way I was raised. Also my mother and I noticed it a lot
when we were in London/Paris, the way people dressed and presented
themselves , was so much more stylish and like they cared about how they
looked. It was funny because the only time we saw men that were sloppily
dressed were generally American. So it's very sad to see that happen, and I
notice it daily with the relaxed dress codes at work. I so miss those days
when people took a little bit more pride in the way they dressed.....In my
area of work I see so many of the women not even wear makeup to work and it
just makes me shake my head, like as if putting a little bit of lipstick or
mascara will somehow make them seem less qualified than the guy next to
them....Anyways enough of my rant, you'll think I'm a loony LOL This sound
like a great book and thanks so much for sharing it with us :D xox
Poise, like so many other personal attributes seem to be becoming a thing
of the past. We live in such a layed-back society these days. It's so
unfortunate. For example, we used to have a dress code at work. Although I
quit working a few years ago, I still like to dress as if I were going to
work whenever I leave the house. When I visit my former office place these
days, It looks like casual Friday everyday of the week anymore. So sad to
me. I think that simply taking a little extra effort to dress more
appropriately makes you feel more poised and makes professional people more
productive. I had to giggle just a little at your horror at Scott wearing
sandals to church. I'm thinking Jesus probably wore sandals every day of
his life, but now if Scott starts also wearing a robe with his sandals to
church, you might really have to put your foot down! Laurie
You are SO lucky!!! I can't wait to read this book! I devoured the first 2
in a matter of 2-3 days. Great review and I loved the examples/excerpts you
shared. I know that through YouTube or IG you don't get to really know
someone but I happen to think you have so much poise. The way you
articulate yourself, your tone, the way you keep your home, your attention
to detail from hosting a party or making a flower arrangement, appreciation
for travel and desire to keep learning and grow are all signs of poise and
elegance. I love that your channel is a place for inspiration, great ideas,
amazing suggestions and that it is a clean and positive space that does not
promote or encourage inappropriate language or behavior. YOU are on the
right track and are inspiring us all to jump on board, just like Jennifer
does. :)
Teri....what a marvelous review of this latest book from Jennifer L. Scott,
I can't wait to read it!! You're review again was so thoughtful and I love
the fact that you stressed how important it is to try, as you say to
"elevate your life"!!! I couldn't agree more and I feel you are so right
about the decline of our nation in this respect. I was once vacationing at
a very nice hotel in Palm Springs and while lounging by the pool the couple
next to me used such vulgar language...I was so shocked, it almost ruined
my whole afternoon by the pool !!! I should have complained to the
management and I think the next time I will!! Thank you for bringing this
very important subject up.... We can all use a little more poise and
gentility in this world!! ❤️ Terianne
Teri, Always love your videos! You share ideas that inspire and elevate. I
so agree with all you have shared. I think change for the better does start
with each individual and how we conduct ourselves. Dressing nicely and good
grooming shows effort and respect for the activity we are participating in.
I think it's true for my love of cosmetics as well. It is an effort to
enhance and elevate one's appearance.
I especially think how we instruct children to conduct themselves is so
important. Let's aspire to be poised and not sloppy and raunchy in our
language and behavior. It denotes self respect as well as thoughtfulness to
those we interact with. It can only enhance our culture and not denigrate
it. Thank you for being such an inspiration in this effort.
This is such a wonderful book, Teri! And you did a wonderful review. I
think you have so much poise. I have to admit, Teri and I'm ashamed to say
it, but I can have a potty mouth. I don't in front of my grandkids, of
course, but when I drop something on my foot or something like that. But
I'm really trying to do better. Anyway, I love trying to develop more grace
and poise. I'm trying to start with organizational skills, like we had
talked about. I also don't know why people don't dress like they used to.
Everything is so casual now. This was a great review! Much love and best
wishes for the wedding! Much love, Melissa
I love Jennifer's books, vlogs, and blog posts! She inspired me to make a
lot of changes in my life. I'm in my twenties and I see so many horrifying
things and sometimes I'm sad to say that I'm ashamed of hanging out with my
friends. Manners don't seem to matter that much anymore and I've seen
people react so nicely even if I said something as simple as how are you. I
can't wait to read this book since there are so many changes I still want
to make. Cursing isn't really a problem, but my posture sure is!! Take care
and thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I have Jennifer's other 2 books and really did enjoy them. She gives the
reader much food for thought. All of this is especially important to me now
that I have a new grandchild. What kind of world are we giving kids to live
and grow up in? Our standards need to be way above what they have become.
One person at a time can change this. We hold more power than we think. We
influence in some way every one we meet. Thank you Jennifer Scott for
writing a book that says what today's world needs more than ever! Great
review Teri!!
I definitely want to get this book. I agree with everything you said Teri.
It seems that some people don't have a filter anymore. I go by the old
saying, "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all." Words
can either be hurtful or helpful. Most of what we hear on tv today is
hurtful. I used to watch a lot of television but I don't anymore. It is all
so negative and I try to fill my mind with positivity. Best wishes for the
wedding. xoxo Laura
Hi Teri, Thank you for the sharing and the great review. I bought her " At
home with Madame Chic" book after seeing your earlier review on that book.
I throughly enjoyed reading it. I love Jennifer's book, Volgs, and blog
posts. Thanks for introducing Jennifer L. Scott. Will definitely want to
get this book. I so agree with all you have shared. Now a days youngster
and their mannerisms are deteriorating tremendously .....see you soon in
another video .
Teri thank you so much for this amazing review! And I agree with you about
Cary Grant. I have always loved him! Perfect example of poise. Loved your
flip-flops at church story. That sounds like my husband too! Completely
agree about the cursing. And congratulations on your daughter's upcoming
wedding! Thank you again for sharing these great thoughts about my book xx
"Vulgarity is the new normal". Love that line. So true. My mama taught me
to express myself without vulgarity. It is not easy sometimes, but it
requires more strength to maintain poise than to let your emotions control
you. Self-control requires real power. I love the sound of this book. Thank
you for the review. I will buy it! So excited to dig in!
Great review. I agree! Poise, elegance, chic. Good words. Personally, I've
never been a fan of the word sexy to describe a look, a way to carry
yourself, especially regarding the 40 plus crowd. I'm so over the word
sexy, I can't say it enough. MAZEL Tov Teri!! Nothing like your daughter
getting married!! Thinking of you. Your hair looks fab. Xx
I so agree Teri it has gotten so bad...there is a quote "If you can't be
interesting without profanity, then let's face it you're not that
interesting" I can remember when kids got into trouble for talking like
that and now it just flows out from kids and parents like it's just normal.
Poor Scott and his flip flops...lol I know what you mean!!
Series Review: The Princess Diaries Series By: Meg Cabot
When I mention book in the video, I'm referring to the full series (I just forgot to say that). PLL Read-A-Long: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/.
Wow. Nice. I thought about when another reviewer mentioned how Mia kinda
broke the 4th wall about her life being made into a movie (kinda
paraphrasing). I also wondere how old you were. When you said you weren't
into middle school books or 12-year-old books, you said you meant cuz of
your past, also with elementary school. Wasn't sure if you meant cuz of the
cheesiness/silliness.
+Brooke Parker Thanks for watching! I'm 20 years old, in this video I was still 19 though. I meant more so that I didn't enjoy elementary school at all more so grades 6-8, so I don't really like delving back into those days. Also, I've never been a giant fan of middle school books. :)
+Sakshi Singh Thanks for watching! Do you mean "Royal Wedding", because if so here is my review of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VIGS6fBQeEIf you, didn't mean that one can you tell me the title of the book you're referencing, because even in the books the page where it says what order they go in is confusing due to the novellas. :)
well I hated the series hears why because there as far as I saw on each
book that I saw was just dear diary and it was all incursive and a few
print stuff but not many do you have the same kind of books I never bought
the book because of that
I quickly looked at your video captures and there books I want to read. so
good thing there no spoilers. I own some of these books that are unread or
read so I can tell your my rating :). now sure if I want to read these yet.
The unfortunate event got me going haha. I got soo upsets when the villain
can showing up. I kept thinking to myself " leave those kids alone you
poop!" " ok dropping the book for while " haha got soo into it.
+NevilleEvil26 Thanks for watching! Yes, I've read the 11th book and will be posting a review on it tomorrow. :)
