All. right - before the Stone Arch Bridge was re-opened, before there was a
Stone Arch Bridge Festival, and before the down river side of Nicolet
Island was developed - I went to a High School called De La Salle - founded
in the late 188's, I did NOT attend until 1965 (graduating class of 1968)
and if you really want to hear some stories about the Stone Arch Bridge
and/or Nicollet Island prior to the "cool factor" set in - talk to
"Shortie", the guy who sold De La Salle students liquor from his "rooming
house" on Hennepin Avenue (old bridge when Great Northern Depot was still
running railroads though it's building and the "Grain Belt Brewery" neon
was still working..............
