Which leads into a third reasons; cats affects the wild life in a negative way. A fourth reason is to minimize suffering. However, how suffering actually is minimized I don't actually understand since I understand suffering in nature to be a zero-sum game. A fifth reason is that some people just hate cats and want to see them dead for no other reason than that. I am sure the are more reasons but these are what I can muster right now.

There's just no way to "fix" every rat, especially when they can have 20 babies in a single litter. Besides, leaving other animals to naturally cull them is much easier.

+bbells14 I hear you. About the aquariums, It has been a hobby of mine for some 25 years. Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a fish, so my mom said I declared. I  do get where your coming from! Are you aware the pacific ocean is in die-off mode? I've heard deep sea divers (in capsules) that are going down to the depths only to find a rotting grave yard there, words cannot express my sadness of this situation. Fukushima is the single largest disaster of mankind! How many millions live off of the waters?!  many millions of people. Can we imagine it, the only wild life we could know in the years to come will be from zoos and the like?! I shudder at the thought! will we only read about the great beasts of the plains in books or on the internet? God forbid! I want all life to be free...that includes us humans too. why must all be so controlled? Because of the evil people in this world, and guess what...they're not takin a day off!! As Marley said. Light out of darkness, amen to that! (be the light)  So why do I have fish. I love their beauty number one and because it reminds me we need to keep striving for freedom. I can almost hear what your saying at this point...hear me out. I raise veil tail angel fish, from eggs. Right now I have three and they are in a 55 gal tank, they are small, with plenty of room to "hide out" and swim. In fact, when I'm at the tank they come up to the glass and follow my finger and we spend time together, they like the interaction, I do too. They are safe and protected, no fukushima water here! Could I love them just as much in their nature habitat? I would love it! although we live in a super polluted world, as you may know Angels are very susceptible to environmental changes, they die very easily from enviro stressors. Strong yet fragile, that's why I love them so much. so, are we as a human race a microcosm of an aquarium? much love and peace, thanks for your comment ~ Luisa
