I have an "04" Colorado LS and I tried and tried to get the rear drums off
( never seen any this tough to remove - was about to bust them off ) but
your video helped and I finally got the new shoes installed so thanks for
great video for all the rest of us back yard mechanics . For anybody else
out there who hasn't done a rear brake job on a Colorado they are truly a
bitch , but you can do it yourself . If you decide to do it yourself and
don't want top pay a small fortune for the parts at Autozone, Advance etc..
and can wait a few days for parts try RockAuto.com , cheapest you will get
anywhere !
+david willix thanks for the great comment. I have a lot of people that would have told me that i'm doing it all wrong. But I never claimed to have the only way, an its the way that worked for me. thanks again
I searched this video because at work today I had a hell of a time trying
to get that horseshoe spring into place. as for the parking brake cable, I
just used some locking needle nose pliers against where the cable came
through to the drum to hold it. Hopefully I can get it all done tomorrow,
thanks.
Dude, you left out how you got that damn E-Brake back together. I am in the
middle of doing mine right now and I am having a hell of a time getting
that cable through the spring
All you had to do was to follow the cable , and unhooked it from underneath the truck ( around the middle of truck) and that would have given you close to 12 inches of slack enough to install the spring , without having to compress the spring. Too late my advice ...... Sorry. Good luck next time.

Dude got a tip on that emergency cable for ya ...follow the cable under the
chassy and you will find that its easy to remove from the bracket pivot
there ...now you have lots of slack to push it back into the seat then the
shoe in place . You will find the cable easy to reinstall back on the pivot
.
+ben casey Excellent point, just wish I had see this comment a few days ago. The cable can be fitted in OK with four hands, but with two hands it is hard to keep the damn thing depressed well enough to pull the end down and into place so it locks. with plenty of cable using your suggestion, it would be a pretty easy job for one person. Well keep this pt in mind next time.
