She's back...everyone's fun, favorite grouch has the most hilarious sarcastic remarks when nit-wit Rose asks some of the most stupidest questions. Is it a comedy ...
I remember my first exposure to Dorothy's sarcasm. She and Sophia came home
dressed in all black, obviously from a funeral.
Rose: Dorothy, were you and Sophia at a funeral?
Dorothy: No, Rose, we were singing back up for Johnny Cash!
XD
+Tavon Fenwick they didn't. I remember one episode where Sophia mentioned that the girls' house was the only one in the neighbourhood without a pool, which is strange because that makes one assume that the Weston's had a pool, but on Empty Nest, I don't remember they ever talking about it or even mentioning it. But the writers of the shows never did practice continuity throughout the series
I love this video. I just got back from Japan and in my opinion people do
understand sarcasm in Japan. It's just not completely to the level of other
countries where it is used so often. And if you're talking to someone in
Japan that does not understand sarcasm, this is a great video to show them!
filipinos are like that, they don't get sarcasm at all. i'm used to it
with my family but i'm not used to others doing it. when i went to
university, i made sarcastic jokes and no one got it. finally, the girl i
was with said something negative bec she took it seriously not realizing it
was a joke. so i explained that it was a joke. she finally got my sense
of humor but since then, she would explain to every single person i joked
sarcastically with that it was a joke thereby ruining the joke itself. she
meant well of course bec no one got any of my jokes.
+Cam Hortaleza I went to UP Diliman for my masteral. They get certain types of sarcasm like the corny 'pick up lines' but they don't get sarcastic jokes. My classmates who didn't get my jokes were all smart people but they weren't used to that type of joking, all my sarcastic jokes flew over their heads. My brother who is in IT also tells the same story and his superior once approached him and told him that his jokes were funny but to e careful because most Filipinos just don't GET it.
+nenabunena They do, actually they do it a lot, I mean I do. What University do you go to in the Phil? Sarcasm is really common to us just in our language that is.
I'm a joker I don't think I could go a day without using sarcasm. The only
cure I can think of is a shock collar that would zap me every time I say
something sarcastic. ;P
No really I mean it Lol.
Videos like this one remind me of how horrible it must be for non-English
speaking people to try and learn or even understand English. Whoever said
your English is bad was being ridiculous ;)
And "The Big Bang Theory" is an excellent show to learn sarcasm. One of the
characters cannot understand sarcasm whatsoever and spends the first couple
seasons asking his friends whether they were being sarcastic or not. It
makes it really easy to pick it up when one of the characters is constantly
pointing out where the sarcasm is :)
Some Americans (maybe Brits, Aussies as well?) also use sarcasm to express
their true feelings to someone, but then say "it's a joke" to protect
themselves from the person they might have offended. Like I might say,
"Man, today was a long day, I'm really tired", and they would respond "Wow,
why don't you complain about it some more, COMPLAINER!"...and their tone
reflects that they're saying it SARCASTICALLY and trying to joke around.
However, it's clear to me that they are in fact calling me a complainer
even though they said it sarcastically. So I would say "Wow, that was kind
of mean", and once they see that I'm offended, they will say "Ohhhh no, I
was just kidding!". But they only say that so I won't be mad anymore. In
reality, they were tired of my complaining, they just used sarcasm to
express that fact because they didn't want to keep it to themselves. It's
very mean, but you see it alot.
English is weird.
+takigan - I have a saying "In jest there is always a hint of truth" Though in this case, personally if I said, "Wow why don't you complain more" it'd be more as a joke to lift their spirits, then get them to forget about it and enjoy the rest of the day :)
+takigan I actually mean it a lot of the time. But everyone just assumes i'm joking. We both laugh, Their feelings aren't hurt, I still say what I intended to, and we're all happy. YAY sarcasm.

Actually people who are like you are the people who are avoid. People with
low self esteem always putting people down with there fake profiles and
filth inside there souls. Don't hang around this kind of people you won't
ever grow.
I really try and avoid people like this Jonel . People like this have so
much hurt in there heart and like to bring others down . You shouldn't
boast about being a sarcastic person , instead boast about how great you
have treated someone , and how good you made them feel . You will soon
realize that doing good for others is way more rewarding then being
sarcastic : s )
We are all on a journey in our lives , we will all be judged in the after
life .
We will be judge by how good we have been to people , and also how bad we
have been to others .
Think before being sarcastic , and what it does to the other person .
+Bismarck I don't necessarily agree. Yes some people use sarcasm to insult other people, but for me personally when I use sarcasm in my humour it's all very light hearted and if it was taken any other way I would make sure to make my intentions clear and apologize. I understand what you are saying but It IS possible to have a sarcastic sense of humour and also be a good person. In fact I'd like to think that most people who are sarcastic are good people. One characteristic doesn't define you're entire personality. :)
Ty for this, I generally am not a sarcastic person.. I'm afraid to be
because I don't want to come off as an asshole... but my love is a
sarcastic person. And I'm trying to learn how to "get" him without feeling
like he hates me
