Hi mate, did you find out the cause ? Trying to repair one at present and
it has a similar sound on idle (although not as bad as this car yet).
Haven't did much work on BM's before but I would have thought injector or
maybe even the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper ? Be interested to know
how you got on.
+Beemer Lab Just seen your blog, absolutely fantastic work. As someone who is due to remove his swirl flaps, I couldn't be more motivated right now. Glad you got yours sorted and thanks for the info/blog mate.
Seriously, mine has been off the road since this vid was upped, save for a 2 week period when it was running great on the damaged pistons, but leaking oil everywhere and it turned out to be pressuised crankcase from the bad piston, luckily I only have one to replace, but the engine needs lifting and the subframe dropping, it is soul destroying. Check out my blog, I have written a lot about this particular problem - //beemerlab.blogspot.com
Oh mate, well since you ask it's 99% definately going to be a swirl-flap has fallen right into the combustion chamber. Run for your life. Swap the engine. Or do what I did, rebuild the engine with a new cyl.-head and other bits for about £600, then realise the pistons are bad rebuild the engine a 2nd time putting in new pistons. Im halfway through rebuild number 2. Good luck.

Do all the warning lights come on at the same time that the rpm's bounce?
What codes are stored in the ABS & ECM modules? The steering wheel icon is
probably related with the ABS... but can't be sure without knowing the
fault codes.
Yes, it's the "Quantity Adjuster". Now I have another problem, the check engine light won't come on which means the car won't start. This could be due several things. VWs are a pain. Next time I will buy a different brand.
