computer chip level repair clock voltage and harddisk problem
My Profile History I am doing Computer Hardware Servicing and Maintenance. I am very quickly gained the reputation for being a Computer Company that ...
More hard drive and transformer abuse with a flyback and high voltage
Ordered a replacement split voltage power supply for external HDD off the internet. They had a type A and a type B. The difference was the 5 and 12 volt pins ...
No, swapping the wires would fix the voltages to the hard drive only. The IDE to USB interface needs to run on the 5 volt supply, as it is now it is on the 12 volt supply. So the option would be as I did it, or crack the power supply open and swap the wires in that. The power supplies are glued shut, and I didn't feel like damaging it. So the easiest solution was to cut the trace and solder in jumper wires.
The hard truth about Hard Drive Dock Pro (voltage level problem?)
This is video is a demonstration about a supposedly voltage-level problem that occurs in Freecom's Hard Drive Dock Pro, a little review of mine. Technical ...
It's too late to return the dock but I'm going to test it again using eSATA
when I get a computer capable of that. It's possible the problem is with
the IDE/SATA to USB bridge. I say this because the drive never spins down
while the USB cable is disconnected. Otherwise, I'll buy another dock. I
don't need an IDE interface because I've found a great IDE to SATA dock
adapter made by Unitek that I like better than the other options (attaching
a ribbon cable to the drive from the dock).
Hard Drive High Voltage
Im using an old laptop power supply to fry these chips.
It's more fun when a HDD chip overheats and spontaneously explodes. Blows a
hole in the top of the chip and vents a large flame with white smoke. Was
kind of random though. Haven't had a HDD behave like that since.
