There are thousands of families who had to deal with their relatives
joining the isis.
People native to western nations are joining the organisation.
Now think of these families watching this skit.
I don't know if anyone really paid attention to the sketch but it was not
making fun of ISIS. It was making fun of the US military. The commercial
that was being parodied was about a father dropping his daughter off to
join the military. The only people getting made fun of are the father and
the daughter from that commercial. ISIS is not portrayed in a funny way or
mocked in any way. They shoot their guns and say death to America, which is
what they say for real. ISIS is not being joked about, our soldiers are.
Funny not many people picked up on that.
They were trying to expose the Western fear based propoganda for what it is. The Toyota commercial is nothing more than propoganda aimed at gaining support to continue these endless wars in foreign lands. SNL used irony to show how ridiculous these wars have become and how fear is the main motivating force behind those who want to fight. Most of our military leaders have recently come forward to express their growing concern for the use of military action to achieve the goal of ending terrorism. It isn't working.I'm not surprised that so many people take offense to this skit. The skit assumes that people think with their minds and not their emotions. Knee jerk reactions are still alive and kicking!
I'm not projecting any personal feelings upon the skit. I just watched it and that's what I observed. They were using a commercial about a woman joining the military and substituted ISIS for our military. If they wanted to make fun of these girls running off to join ISIS they could have done a better job.
It wasn't making fun of the US military, or even really ISIS. White women in the US and UK with privileged suburban backgrounds have been joining terrorist organizations lately. It's in the news. I think it's fairly obvious that THAT is what it's about. Basic bitches with their uggs and Starbucks leaving for the middle east. That is where the satire really is and it's going over everyone's heads including YOURS.
But the part you were meant to laugh at was not them. It's the father and daughter. ISIS was used as a prop for them being the joke.

+Col. Angus Yeah, I felt a strange urge to...laugh while watching this era's SNL.But it turns out, they got new writer's. It's amazing how much sense that makes when I think about the dramatic shift in comedy.Btw, the racettogether thing was real.Didn't know that.
