This is just about what I've been thinking for a while when pondering the
causes of modern degenerative disease. I think it's important to remember
that it's hard to prove it and to keep an open mind about the possible
contribution of other factors to the stew of relatively new problems we're
seeing. But,toxic load and the probable synergy of all these chemicals and
metals floating in us seems like an obvious major suspect when looking at
the changes that have occurred over the past century or so. In the mean
time people are picking out single factors and substances like mercury,
"stress", wheat, fat or even maligning the poor carbohydrate which had been
with us for quite a while with no apparent ill effect. Can't have a new
problem from an old substance. The problems to solve with toxic exposure
and accumulation are how to take in less (obviously we will take in some,
and probably quite a bit), how to get rid of what we take in and have
already accumulated and how to re-set the body to something more like
proper function after the disruption they have caused. Chris Shade's
approach to detoxification via the liver seems promising, but it's hard to
say how proven it is. The great majority of detox info out there is
probably pretty useless in the face of the scope of the problem. Natural
detoxification is also probably hindered a great deal by the endocrine
disruption and disordering of metabolism caused by the action of the toxins
in the body. We know a lot of these chemicals are endocrine disrupting, by
specific means like screwing up enzymes or enzyme reactions, or blocking
hormones and it seems like that must be a major cause of the epidemic of
low body temperature and endocrine chaos that is going on.
