I built 3 motorcycles and a truck (motor). I helped rewire an aircraft with more spaghetti than an Italian Dinner on Saturday night. None of it had been taught and most all of it was seat of the pants... I'm about to tear into an 81 Toyota with rust, wear and tear (It's not a Ford but it works) and some long needed loving care. I ran into your videos and lost the day... Great job Kid! Ya got the same idea I do about your truck... Function before Beauty! I don't think my Toyota will look much like a Toyota when I finally get around to it... If I can stop watching you work on your truck and go work on MINE! >.< Cheers!

LMC Truck: Shortbed Conversion [S7 Ep. 3-5]

Everybody wants a classic short bed pickup. Unfortunately short beds are hard to find for a good price... but, long beds are a dime-a-dozen, and cheap!

oh ok, thanks. I was just gonna try to do the ends, so Im just soaking it all in wd40 for a few days, hopefully it works!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I went online to www.lmctruck.com to order mine

+Anthony Weidner Okay thanks a ton! I have gotten almost everything to come off, and one tie rod end came out pretty easily, but Im still stuck on the drivers side end. Ive used pb blaster, wd40, propane torch, and tons of pulling at the end, but its still stuck.. Maybe Ill have to buy the whole tie rod. Where did you buy yours again? Thanks
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Bryan N I know everyone has their own preference for penetrating lubricants, I prefer PB Blaster or Kroil over WD-40 because I've had better luck with them. If the WD-40 doesn't work for you it might be worth your time to try one of the other two (most auto parts stores carry them for a couple $$). If that doesn't work you can swing by a hardware store and grab a tank of MAPP gas and try to heat it up to break them free (the rubber boot on the end will probably start smoking or catch fire so be careful). I've heard of people using "freeze off" but I've never tried it so I'm not sure how well it works. If you have access to a welder you can spot weld a wrench to the nut, slide a pipe over the wrench, and get way more leverage and not have to worry about slipping or rounding the nut.

just wondering, why did you replace the whole tie rod, couldnt you just replace the ends? (on the long tie rod directly in front of the front axle) Im doing mine, but just trying to figure out if I need the whole tie rod or just the ends. Thx.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Bryan N It's actually a combination of 2 reasons. 1) the tie rods hadn't been replaced in at least 10 years (possibly longer) and I couldn't get the ends to break loose. 2) in one of my off roading moments I had bent the bar, the tire shop wouldn't do an alignment unless I replaced it.in my opinion, if you have the extra money it's easier just to replace it all than to fight with all the rust, then you know it will last another 30 years and you can coat the threads with antiseize so the next time you need to replace tie rod ends they will come apart easier. the truck is an 84 and that was still a factory original part so I didn't feel too bad about getting a new one from LMC Truck. I tried Napa, Autozone, Advanced Auto, and O'Reilly's but they all told me they couldn't get it. If you do decide to replace it make you look at it really well first because there are 3 different variations. My truck is the K20 HD and that was the only variation the local parts stores couldn't get

what brand did you use?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+ScoobyDigites I did the rear suspension on mine recently, I have a short slide show on it as well. I'll be doing the front around tax time. mine is leaf springs all around so the next video won't be much different than the last. I'll be upgrading to the 3 leaf front springs instead of the stock 2 leaf though, plans for either a winch or plow next year (maybe both if finances work out), that will involve a little fabrication and an additional video though
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-epdb5zg2zEw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAEc/kituT_skC3g/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Anthony Weidner nice I've got a 90 suburban and I need to do some steering and suspension replacements
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
the Napa parts were all store brand and all seemed to be pretty sturdy. I haven't had problems with anything so far and it's been a couple thousand miles. everything still has the black paint as well. there are a few spots of surface rust on some of the threads where I didn't completely cover them with industrial anti seize/lubricant
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
the tie rods, power steering pump (reman), gear box (reman), drag links, and pulley were all from Napa auto parts. the rest of the parts were from LMC Truck.
