I am a master certified VW Tech, and I take your automotive questions on Why I became a VW tech ~ When to replace a TDI timing belt ~ Buying a used VW ...
I just went through the intake issue on my moms 09 Jetta with the CBEA..
Dealer flat out told me they wouldn't work on the car with the deiselgeek
flapper bracket and recommended against it. What could possibly be the
negatives of adding a mechanical stop to that motor?
This dealership would not let me talk to the tech I had to ask all my
questions through the service writer.Very frustrating as a mechanic myself
to just get the "This is the code now we replace that part" speech.
Unfortunately they are still the better of the VW dealers in the state.
+HumbleMechanic Thanks for the reply! I don't remember the exact conversation, but the jist of it was they would not accept liability for the aftermarket device. The car was giving an intermittent P2015, and I suggested I install the dieselgeek bracket instead of the $800 intake and got the above run around. The persistent issue is the exhaust smell in the car on the highway which predated the MIL. I just want to find an honest wrench I can send my mom to on the other coast, so frustrating the state of the industry.
Hey Charles i have a 2007 jetta and i have noticed a drastic amount of
road/engine noise, its horrible at freeway speeds and city driving is
starting to get a little annoying lol.
*** ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY APPRECIATED
+HumbleMechanic Ok yea I was thinking of that, also a while back I took the car for a diagnosis at the dealer and it was recommended I replace the cv boots do you think bad cv boots could be a part of the problem? Thank you
In regards to Bruce's question, I think a factor in Bruce's question would
definitely be his climate. Personally, I feel like that would be a hard
climate on a belt and car. I'm in central Ontario and the winters are cold
enough here, but being in Alberta can be just that little bit colder. Not
uncommon to hover around -20c.-30c.When temps get that cold, and you drive
a diesel, a LOT of people tend to do a lot of idling. Obviously more common
in trucks but still. And That makes me wonder, how much time has this car
spent idling? Some cold days in Ontario, without even noticing, my Beetle
TDI will spend upwards of an hour per day idling. So maybe this could be a
basis for slightly early replacement. Or perhaps it is a bit early. I'm not
tech, just an average guy who loves VW's. Just some food for thought for
Charles and Bruce.
+Brandon Friesen I agree.. It doesn't make very much heat. But including myself, many people do it. Mine is in shorter intervals, but it adds up over the course of my day. Long periods don't really do me or anybody any good.
+Michael Shone I live in Calgary and yes our winters can be very bad, but Manitoba is the worst in Canada for cold winters. I never idle my TDI unless I'm waiting for something/someone and it will take less than 2 minutes. Even if it's -30 outside, my 2.0L CR 2013 Jetta TDI fires up, I wait for the idle to smooth out and I take off and drive easily until my temperature gauge starts moving up. Idling will not increase temp in a TDI. I experimented once with a junker 2006 Jetta TDI. The front of the car was untouched, but it had been rear ended badly. I had it idling for 3 hours in weather above +20c. I came back to it and the temp gauge had not moved from the 50c bottom mark.
+Rod B call the dealer and give them your VIN and they'll check for recalls, updates and can give you the service history as well as extended warranty items.
Cut Springs - Lexus SC400 - Drift Build Part 4
Chopping the springs on the Lex. If you are going to cut springs, this is probably the best way to do it. First, wrap the spring with a wet rag so it does not get heat ...
Yo man I love this channel! Just keep uploading and work to put out a video
maybe every 3 days and you'll have a massive fan base soon! Just advertise
your channel on haggard garage and I'm sure people will love your videos.
Lmaooo sound like the biggest fan boy but yeh
love watching this project come together. I really want to buy an sc400.
not to drift though. probably lower it and get some decent rims. how much
did you guys save by not purchasing lowering springs?
+GladskiGames I genuinely appreciate the kind words. It's people like you that motivate me on this project. The 400 is an amazing platform for you to daily. It is a grand tourer. Lowering springs, and wheels would make it the perfect car to drive across the country. We saved anywhere from $250 to $3k (price for top shelf coilovers) by cutting springs.I honestly would not recommend cutting the springs. Engineers worked so hard on every last detail. However, the mission of this channel is to undo what they have done and I assume the risks. If you decide to cut the springs. be careful not to cut too much. wrap a wet towel around the spring near where you cut so you dont heat treat the spring. also, shave the part that makes contact with the top hat. finally find a way to secure the spring to the lower spring perch. Happy modding!
Dunno where you heard that story but my fenders will tell you a different one
MK7 GTI Dyno - APR Stage 2
Dyno vid of APR stage 2 on my 2015 VW GTI Im a regular guy , i dont work for a shop or a tuning company .This is my car in the Texas heat at 76% humidity .
+Bee Rice You aren't understanding the argument here man. You can't compare a brand new car with a warranty to a used car. By using your logic, this means that your car is shit too, because I can buy a $1,000 DSM, put $1,000 dollars into it and run 11's. So when you compare both cars at face value, when they were both for sale, your BMW was a $40K+ I6 Twin-turbo Sports Sedan, while the GTI is a $25K hatchback, this means it would be pretty pathetic if your car didn't put down better numbers. Are you not following the logic here?
+Bee Rice Mate you need to buff up your reading skills. In the post first post above I said " car that MSRPd for over 40K". Do you know what MSRP stands for? Spoiler alert: It doe not mean the used price that your can get them for now. You are comparing a new car to a used car.
+Bee Rice Did you even read my comment? No one is doubting that N54/55 cars can put down those numbers. If you read my previous comment, you'll see that my issue is with comparing a $25K FWD hatchback, to a RWD $40K+ Sports Sedan. Frankly, it'd be embarrassing if it didn't put down better numbers than the GTI considering the $15K+ price difference.
+Bee Rice Whoa man, slow down. You saying your I6 Twin-Turbo car that MSRPd for over 40K is making more power than a 2.0L Hatchback that starts at 25K and gets 30+MPG? Whoa dude. Impressive stuff. lol
So your running water meth injection. Im curious to do it myself in a 2014
gen3 GLi BUT, (and if you can help me out in this) Im APR. Are you running
91 pump gas with water meth and the 93map because of the boost in octane on
the snow kit,, or are you running a 93oct map on 93oct pump gas with just
adding in the water meth. My APR tuner says that being on 91oct now if I
add the water meth I can run the 93 map file and have the system kick in
around 10psi but what if I'm not hitting that unless I'm floored. Daily
driving the car will the 93 fuck up the driving of the car if I'm not
hitting the psi for the system to kick in?
I'm not running meth in this vid . but I run a progressive system that only injects at 10 psi or higher progressively more as the map voltage line goes. so tech u wouldn't be at ur wanted 93 all the time
+GliGuru man its the end of the year . I was hoping to get some in new orleans at the track but I couldn't . when I got back to texas it's been raining every week
