just a question.. im fairly new to engine mods and tweeks, but from my
point of view wouldnt a superchagrer instead of a turbocharger be more of a
power gain, because the supercharger creates that easrly rpm boost, whereas
the vtech would take care of the high end rpm with the boost of the
supercharger? and what else exactly would i do to a car that had: light
weight pulleys, 4-1 headers, light flywheel, cold-air intake, catback
exhaust, 94 octane fuel, front end upraded tires, and turbo/super
@yugotec010 Yes this was 6 years ago on the Maasvlakte. Streetracing
against the Midlands crew from Utrecht. They brought there fastest club
cars: Rx7 Fd3s 380hp, Mazda GTR turbo 4x4 300hp, Opel Astra 2.0ltr calibra
turbo 300hp. My prelude was running about 12 psi boost and as you can hear
and see, tiremarks on the tarmac, i could not get the power down even with
such low boost. It's a street race so i ran crappy street tires, the main
reason why i pull on them end 3rd gear.
A charger generates more heat and produces less boost then a turbo. If id
have used a charger id have more wheelspin cause of the quicker power
delivery low down in the powerband. For dragrace this was not desirable in
my case. Wasting alot of time spinning. Turbo makes more power then
charger. To much power/torque in very low rpm range in a front wheel drive
isn't an option. 250whp in a FWD would be best. My prelude had way more and
could only go in a straight line.
I'm building a 93 Prelude vtec H-22. So far I've installed a Venom
Intake...light weight pulleys, 76mm throttlebody...cold-air intk. light
weight flywheel in trany with 3 stage clutch. Turbonetics T-61 turbo not
yet installed, I want to break in engine first... work out any bugs. HKS
intercooler, custom headers-exhaust. I ran out of money but want to get
Rods and turbo cams. It is hours away from first start...Id like your
thoughts when I post video.
It depends on how much power you want.A bulletproof build engine can die as
quick as an "non" build. It's all about tuning. For high power, high boost
yes you'll need a rebuild. But a healthy stock engine can safely handle
300/350bhp as long as it's well tuned and well maintained. For low boost no
need to change ECU.But be disciplined and stay within the limits and the
engine will last a very very long time.
I tried the stock 205-55-15 225-55-15 at various tire pressures: as low as
15 psi. Also tried 235-40-17 at various pressures, the car still spins. It
depends on the quality tire as well, i used cheap tires cause i was
spinning. I should have use Nitto drag radials, that should have helped on
the street. You should try 235-55-15 at low pressure when racing on the
street.
Shape of the car makes it timeless. Just upgrade small things and it's good
to go for another decade. H22a are really something else yes. Working on a
H26a stoker turbo project right now. Going to be awesome to see how much
power it will make. I've sold the prelude a few years back to go with
rearwheeldrive. But still work on alot of Honda's with alot of love.
Some of the 4th gens come with an h22. But not all. When in doubt check the
engine code on the block just above the Tranny near the starter. All 5th
Gens come with h22. 97-98 195hp 99-01 200hp. 5th Gen base is better choice
for tuning because you don't have the buggy atts to worry about. Type-sh is
better for stock or light mods.
@SpikeDude07 I don't know the song sorry. Smoke is from the tires spinning
all the way to 3rd gear. Mods are to much to list: Build H22a JDM engine
and custom T3/T4 turbo setup, every thinkable part was upgraded. In this
vid boost was between 10 and 12 psi. Car was tuned to about 26psi, making
more the 500whp.
what size wheels u had? why are u spinning so much? I wanna know so i can
try and avoid that right now with my car. I didn't put on the turbo yet on
my car. but im low comp right now. and I spin my stockies. with only 10 psi
of air in the tires it broke the tranny trying to launch at 3k..
N/A with all the bolt on mods(Not internal) would make an awesome ride. A
turbokit would be more fun if you stay low boost. I had to sell car after 5
years of fun and go Rear wheel drive cause of the enormous wheelspin. Car
turbo setup was huge success, but for straightline driving only.
It was the RX-7 of a friend of mine. It ran 16psi boost on non sequential
turbo's. Trust intercooler, knightsports ECU and exhaust system. I ran
about 10 to 12psi and start wheeling him in after spinning and pumping the
gas in end 3, then start leaving him behind :)
I agree, mine is a 1993 and still runs as hell. Only a turbo charged can
beat me but a 4 or 6 cyl with no turbo cannot. Shape is definetely
timeless. I cannot afford a turbo right now but with just Vtec I've got a
lot of satisfaction.
I have a prelude turbo pistons injectors lifters vals all done up and when
I race I burn a lots of rubber is there some thing I can do about it on
dyno with racing gas 503 hp but rite now I am on superme
It wasn't a stock FD. It was a friend of mines. 16psi boost, non sequential
turbo's, 3 inch exhaust, Knighsports ECU, Trust intercooler. I ran about 10
to 12 psi, my Prelude weighed only 1080kgs.
yea im thinking of gettin a prelude myself and tuning it, what models come
with h22a? either im doing that or im buying a 95 accord and getting a h23a
swap im not sure though, any tips?
@jesus3880 you probably need to get a good diff installed. On dyno with
that much power get some bigger tires on. What gas you use depends on what
you want to do with your car. Grts
h22a are really good engine, and they are old as 1993 and still kick ass
today's car. there are not much today's engine that can produce 200hp+ from
4 cyl without forced induction
thx, i was wondering of keepin my h23 and turboing that or swapping a
jdmh22 and turboing that. but if u can have best of both worlds, then i
will aim for those two worlds... : )
Ofcourse it works..... Why shouldn't it work? Have best of both
worlds...Turbo and Vtec power. When you have turbo Vtec doesn't sound as
loud, especialy on an H22 JDM engine.
You can keep the h23, it's a very good powerplant with alot of torque. You
can build that as well and can get alot of power out of it. Just plan what
you want. :)
@smfiou what about a f22 b1? are they any goo? i went to a junk yard and i
have a 92 prelude, and im wanting a new motor and i saw a vtec f22 b1 motor.
