Memories of my youth , 1981 I was 12yrs old & use to listen to my older
brothers 45s of Grandmaster Flash , Whodini , Sugar Hill Gang , Fab 4 Plus
1 etc . For some white boys from Australia , while everyone was into disco
, a few of us white boys embraced the underground rap sounds from the Bronx
& Harlem , NYC .
We loved-it :) :) . 1981 =. 6x Speaker Sanyo Portable Radio Cassette
recorder , Nomad shoes , Levi's jeans , V neck pull overs . :)
I watched the documentary on theme the other day on Centric. These dudes
got ripped off so bad. Crazy. I love how poised they were in this
interview. These rappers today need to take some notes.
+Joseph Pawlowski you know that there was only 7 wonders of the world. The greeks compiled the list and included the pyramids what are you talking about?
As a great grandfather who just learned how to use youtube, I am disgusted
to see this video which is representative of what the young people listen
to today. In my day people didn't dress in these silly Egyptian costumes
like they obviously do today with this video.
+chevonne22 Listen you young pimple ridden brat. You're calling ME stupid whereas YOU are the one who listens and watches people who dress in these ridiculous costumes like in this video? If were as young as I was in the 30s, I'd come up to you and sock you in the kisser. Then I'd pick you up and throw you down. We knew soooo much better how to fight than you kids do now with all that fancy cha cha stuff.
Hey, troll! You might wish to instruct your grands and great-grands to read the video details. If you had read them, I an quite sure you would have noticed that this song originally released in 1982. That is OVER 30 years ago and significantly different than the music of today. Geez, my mother is in her 70s, has great-grandchildren, isn't fond of Rap music, and isn't too familiar with YouTube. However, she does know enough not to comment on things she is not sure about (she calls me to ask first). #TakeNote
+chamboyette853 no that doesn't show anything, only your opinion. The reason for my "vulgarity" is because i find you boring and overall and negative person, plus i feel what you said was just stupid. If you really are a grandfather, get off youtube and go spend it with your grandchildren as opposed to wasting your time on a clip you don't even like. Twit
+malt 79 That shows the plight of the younger generation born after 1950. You can't express yourselves without resorting to vulgarity. And just because they were born out of jazz doesn't make them shameful.
+chamboyette853 surely it isn't even half as good than in the 40s 50s 60s or whatever. i just listen to this with my little brother (12yo) who likes to dance. his and my music taste are same and belongs to classic music, buddy holly, louie armstrong, CSNY , chad and jeremy, roy orbison to name some. what im pointing here is, this is not even what young people listen today. im 18 so surely i know, they listen more on crappy modern music and by hearing this will give them the "old sound". if you are disgusted with this(which is not a good term ) well you might be vomiting hearing music from 2000 - 2015.besides, we just listen to this during our sparest time and have nothing to do but have fun. but not the ones like i will listen everyday in my mp3, and in fact. this song isn't even on my music playlist.
+poor panda I apologize but it is difficult for me to believe you. This music isn't even half as good as the music that was popular when I was a young lad in the mid 40s soon before I left. It sounds contemporary.
you are so wrong, this is never a representative of what young people listens today, this is the opposite. bcos people listen to music worst than this. besides, this is good!
+beasty108 Nothing's impossible my friend. Not if your heart believes so. You just have to listen to your heart. Listen to it now and tell me what it is telling you. Then your real wisdom shall come.
The Sugarhill Gang basically rapped over the song Good Times by Chic. I
fail to see the Jay-Z or Lil' Kim connections. They had been in the era
where rap just sampled artist work and got sued if it became a hit. The
story is pretty much basic for that era. Rap music was not suppose to pay
rappers back then. Although, Sylvia Robinson - Pillow Talk, was one snake
in the grass, they should have been ripped off by Chic
