Okay, this still does not answer: where is the WASTE HEAT? Here's a simple
fact: any intelligent species that drops the usage of their host star for
energy to go out and spread out and discover is not intelligent. Evolution
would strike such behavior as odd-- if not STUPID. Why venture out to other
stars to get energy when you have it in your back yard? Michio Kaku is
known for talking about "type" civilizations and here he is, contradicting
himself. He's a very smart, but stupid scientist in my opinion.
+SOMEGUY7893 You make great points, but I think also it seems Michio Kaku needs to go and watch some of his other videos where he clearly says things differently... it's almost as if someone wrote this script for him to read from and either it took place before the other videos and he converted, I don't know... If you google "detect aliens by waste heat" you will see that we are literally launching satellites and telescopes designed for that specific reason and we have already ruled out the existence of type 3 civilizations in the 100 nearest galaxies-- it's pretty solid science, so much so that we know have SETI, SETA, and SETT... below is a link to a really good article on the subject and why it matters so much that waste heat be a part of discovering intelligent, technologically driven species: //news.discovery.com/space/alien-life-exoplanets/could-we-detect-an-alien-civilizations-waste-heat-140813.htmIt's also important to note that the waste heat we would see is literally bound by light speed limits, of course, so it's quite possible if aliens traveled with warp-like technology they can sneak up on us-- but we would probably see a warp signature of some sort... that article above really says a lot: it's impossible for anything to draw massive amount of energy and use it without producing waste heat-- the laws of physics require it. Yes, maybe they find a way to suck in energy, bundle it, and use it without wasting anything-- but that's so far fetched that any scientist would balk at that.
+Raymond Ross The problem here is technology isn't necessarily linear, it's possible an alien race may have developed interstellar technology before having found a way to harness the majority of their stars power, although we don't know the probability because we simply haven't meet any yet. The problem with seeing a star being used is that it might depend on the sheer distance of the stars, maybe they found a way to create Dyson sphere like technology and have been using the star for thousands of years and relative to Earth the use could have been noticed a point earlier in Earths life but its excess heat is unnoticeable to us now as perhaps they've develop technology that makes the energy lost almost unnoticeable in the intervening period and we can't compare it as we don't have thousand year old observations to compare the modern findings to.
+SOMEGUY7893 You do know that energy and matter are interchangeable, right? And, knowing how difficult it has been for our species to get beyond the Van Allen belt and create a permanent base of some sort, say on the moon, or even a space station x 5 or whatever... back to the energy / matter thing: outside of blasting our way out of the solar system with nuclear fusion bombs, we are going to have to have a greater understanding of quantum physics and to that degree by the time we are able to create a means by which to reliably and safely travel beyond our solar system we will probably know how to contain fusion and will probably know how to create matter from energy, etc, etc... So it falls in line that with that capability and 9 planets plus an asteroid belt to use for material, I am pretty sure habitats and spaces, bases, and other stations will come long before our voyage to another solar system. I know a great deal more than you think. I'm just saying that if technology driven species in a given star system were to start taking advantage of drawing resources from the greatest local source: their sun(s), we would see it in the form of waste heat. You do know what waste heat is, right?
+Raymond Ross Maybe because they have to many people on their planet, maybe because they need excess material to support their production and technology, maybe they have a religion that dictates it, maybe its the sense of adventure that drives them, maybe its social and national differences like with immigrants to America. Maybe you are the one who is uneducated on this matter.
I dont believe in ¨the ant¨ analogy, simply because I think we would not be
that small in comparison to an Avanced Alien race, unless offcourse, they
are giants 100 times bigger than us.
It would be difficult for an intelligent Alien specie to not recognize a
certain degree of intelligence and discipline on the human race, specially
if we are similar in size.
The fact that we find ants or bees or any other social insect so
¨irrelevant¨ and ignorable is because they are very small in comparison to
us. But I am sure that if they were similar in size to us, we would view
them as a real threat.
+Sol Zen I understand what you mean. I was thinking about it again and to a certain extent I agree with you. I just think that ants are not the best example, basically for the reasons I have previusly explained. But I get Kaku´s point because we as humans act like that all the time. For example, a smart scientist or a very rich guy wouldn´t be caught dead inside a bar full of mediocre losers on the poor side of town because there just isn´t any value over there. People tend to associate with like minded people or with people that have the same level of intelectual capacity, and in that sense I agree with Kaku.
+bstevans0 I do suspect that you are over thinking the analogy. Secondly as he said before, 'Ants' wouldn't know what a super highway was, i.e. we have no context upon which to really judge how aliens could/would communicate and travel such vast distances. So trying to judge such advance beings by our primitive standards and understanding, is rather..inefficient. Yeah, we are a civilized people (most of us), but like the ants and humans, it's like us, as he said, a type 0 Civilization (one that hasn't even gained complete control over it's own, home world, we are getting there but still) and a type 3 (one that is spread across the cosmos), yeah, there's going to be a major difference between us. That is the whole point of what he was saying.
+Sol Zen I understand that he was referring to technology not size, but in any event I don´t buy his analogy because it´s to absurd and because it´s a fact that most people think of ants as irrelevant creatures because of their size in comparison to humans. They forget that ants are incredibly more war oriented and organized than any other mammal such as dogs or apes. That´s why I say that if ants had our size, most people including Kaku, wouldn´t view ants as insignificant or not worthy of establishing some kind of communication with us.
+bstevans0 He is talking about technology, not actual size differences. Basically, with the differences in technology comes differences in how either party operates.
+Tenuk868 what would be point of studying such a primitive humans if the most important is to block any other comunication from space. To not interupt US :D
+Tenuk868 Yes, they are walking among us all the time in human form. Some people are even happily married to alien beings without the knowledge that they are living with aliens from another planet. There are projects in progress on this planet. Revealing the identities defeats the purpose of the projects.
