Creative thinking is always to be applauded, but the product is known as
plastic canvas and so is the hobby. It's also used by costume makers like
one would use wire mesh. It can also be used as a vent or mesh screen.
Sometimes it isn't available is certain sizes or hole counts, but one can
find it at an online dealer. Some scissors, string, wire, etc., and you can
make a few cool things even in the field. Kudos to you finding survival
related uses for plastic canvas.
Yeah. I keep extras around for that reason. I also tried elastic cordage,
but nothing I tried was strong enough to retain the tool. I am looking into
getting some heavy-duty twist ties. Those might work better. If you have
