How fast is Smart LTE compared to 3G HSPA and does speed matter when you take into account data caps? Warning: During the daytime, my speed is much ...
Another tip... Noticed the smart bro dashboard is different now. So you
need to have a mybro account. For some reason my Kickstart prepaid Sim
wouldn't register to my account but my regular Smart LTE prepaid sim worked
just fine.
+Gadget Addict agreed! They should of kept it the same. How do you subscribe to the All Night Bundle via text? Was trying to find it online but couldn't. Also do you know where to find the option for "Load Protect"? Or is it automatic now you think?
+Victor yeah they really messed up the bro dashboard. I can't even subscribe to packages anymore because the site just times out, I have to do it all by SMS.
+Victor I managed to get LTE on flexitime but after passing 1GB it throttled me to around 2Mbps. Although when night came, it went back to LTE speeds. It seems to vary a lot per area too. Maybe some kind of automatic traffic shaping / throttling system based on customer usage in each area.
+Gadget Addict yeah I just signed up now and was getting great download speed for awhile but it got throttled to less than 1mbps. I'm trying the flexitime right now but it only works on 3G. Don't get a connection with 4G on flexitime.
Im not able to access google-related services, have very slow speed and
dont get LTE signal while using all night bundle.
though Im getting LTE signal with very good speed when subscribed to
regular promos during daytime.
+Gadget Addict good thing that you were able to get very good speeds during the night yeah, i agree with you on that, globe seems consistent with their services at the very leastthanks!
+Rae kevin Monzon The last few days I haven't been able to get ANY connection during the day. I get a good strong signal on 3G and LTE but just cannot open any sites or even access smart.com.ph/brodashboard . During the night everything starts working again. So I dunno, I guess their service isn't very reliable. When it works, it's amazingly fast. Globe might be slower but at least it works 99% of the time.
Cant seem to find "All night Bundle" any longer. :-(
I am LUCKY to get 2.5mpps down and .75 up. Normal is 1.5 down and .50up
Cool, vid !! Thank you for that.
+Gadget Addict thanks for the helpful videos, keep the great content coming. Not enough in-depth informative tech youtubers here in Manila. Which Huwawei LTE model is the one in the video? Were you able to openline it?
+oOolrac19 It's a good deal but it might be better if you can get this Smart LTE modem for P1995 and then openline it. I'm going to try open line mine today :)
+Jan Michael Pol That's a good question and I'm not really sure. If you had an LTE Sim and you're on postpaid, I'd assume you'd get LTE speeds if you put it into an LTE modem but I dunno if they might have put some kinda restriction against your account or something. It might be best to ask Smart directly, to avoid any unexpected billing!
Nice video. I'm a bit confused about how useful these are for somebody that
works on the internet for a living. (Not making videos or downloading
videos). Maybe you can tell me If one of these would be suitable for
somebody who does web design, but only occasionally uploads files. Really I
think my needs amount to those of a surfer who wants to visit various sites
excluding youtube/torrents. Do you think one of these would be reliable
enough to take as I travel around the Philippines and be able to do my work
reliably, and do they work well outside Manila? I use to live in Ortigas
center and had pldt dsl witch was fine, and sky cable internet was fine
also, but this time I want to be more mobil and not get into contracts or
be stuck in 1 location. Also in some places I might live its very hard to
actually get PLDT to come out and install internet. Its really to bad smart
seems to limit there earning potental by not offering higher plans for LTE
for people who might be willing to shell out 5k/10k/20k pesos a month to
get fast internet.
+Mark K What happens when you pass the data cap depends on the plan. Some postpaid (contact) plans allow you to continue surfing at a super slow speed. On prepaid you get completely cut off once you hit the data cap. I'd recommend grabbing a Globe and Smart sim and just swap between them depending on your area :)
+Gadget Addict Thanks for the info. I just really want to avoid contracts as this gets me stuck in 1 place. I'll look into your solutions. I always remember my GF in cavite having troubles with smart bro but that was 10 years ago. Last question. What happens when the data plan on your device reaches its limit for the day? Do they shut you off totally or just knock you down to 64k or something? Thanks
+Mark K You could get by with a 3G/4G connection for what you described, but coverage outside of Metro Manila is hit and miss. Even just a few hours outside of the city, you'll find places where you'll only get Globe or Smart, not both at the same time. So you'd probably want to openline your pocket wifi and swap the sim between the networks. Also when it rains you can pretty much say goodbye to the speed. And even during normal use you'll see the speed and connectivity fluctuate throughout the day. A DSL or Fiber connection would definitely be much more reliable but with some luck and patience, you can get by with a mobile connection. The best "trick" I know right now for unlimited LTE is to signup for Globe Postpaid LTE plan where you get charged per GB of additional data and then you add the 'anti bill shock' which limits your bill. I think it works out to under 2k for pretty much "unlimited" LTE if you do it that way :) If you really wanna improve your chances, get a pocket wifi which allows connecting an external antenna (the LTE one I showed in the video allows that) and then buy the antenna to go with it :)

Hola Andrea.
