Stilt Court Fire Helmet Cam
This is the helmet cam footage from the Stilt Court Fire in Sacramento. Just for the record, all you morons with an opinion....THIS IS NOT ME IN THE VIDEO!
In some departments the Engineer is just below a Lieutenant and often is in
command when the officer is absent. I think he did a good job relaying what
he saw to the IC and also to the crews packing up. From what I could see he
was trying to help co ordinate operations. I think they should have had a
specific ops commander. Also good job opening the over head door and
opening another access to the fire. I would have put a line on the fire
behind the door. Hot fire well advanced, read the smoke.
Hi I graduated from Inderkum high this June and I just finished up my
summer course at ARC. I start all my fire tech classes in the spring. Id
like to know do you have any recommendations or any incite for what I
should expect on my path to becoming a Firefighter? id really like to come
back to my community and work with the 18 or 17, because that were i pretty
much live. I will take any station of course, I dont want to sound picky or
rude. But you have any advice? hope your brother is ok.
My opinion, Not saying it really matters, is you have a bunch of comments
from people who have watched backdraft one time and think it is the best
movie ever and that is where they received their firefighting training. yea
it isn't too bad but some of the tactics show in that cinema are completely
out of date to use in today's modern fires. However I as well do not agree
with all of the tactics used in this video. Many other options could have
been used to prevent firefighter injury.
stop attacking this fire and the FF's actions, there's a good article about
this fire in Fire Rescue (or one of those mags, I cant remember) which
explains pretty much the whole fire. Sure, a lot went wrong, but a lot
could of been much worse. Sac City Fire is a top noch department that had
better guys with bigger balls who fight more fire than probably any of your
depts. Stop criticizing and take what lessons there are from this video and
apply them in your depts.
Just wondering why the first line wasnt pulled in thru the garage where the
bulk of fire was, seems counter productive to stretch thru the front door
where you have nearly no smoke and no visible fire. IMO bad move moving the
second line in the backyard and flowing water thru the window opposing the
first line. Maybe a little less walking in circles and a more aggressive
hose Co, combined with a OVM could have prevented any FF injuries on IMO a
routine house fire!
hey all you ignorant suns of bitches out there in the pro firefighting,
know it all world. how are you all?......wye don't you guys or girls call
Sac City to find out what really went down. they will be happy to tell you
step by step, begining to end, and all the tactics and strategies that took
place. or just go to IAFF.org and get educated and read LODD and near
misses so you won't be the one everyone is making the ignorant comments
about!
Well from my standpoint. It seems as if the first floor flashed on them
when they opened the front door. So there was no fire through the garage
door when they started their initial attack. And taking the blitz to the
rear was a excellent idea. That line seemed like it was going to be used to
knock down some exterior flames, but they quickly realized that the
interior crew made an excellent knock down there for not need the 2 1/2.
Looking at this fire, a quick aggressive attack through the garage would
have been my choice with a 1 3/4 inch preconnect! The camera man burned or
steamed no one! Surely they've found out since the fire that a 2 1/2 inch
hand line doesn't work too well inside a fire. I like a 2 1/2 inch to cover
exposures, water supply, and surround and drown! This thing had to flash
because it was well involved downstairs, then vented itself.
I love reading all the arm chair quarterbacking. I'll bet that no one
commenting was there and saw the scene as a whole. Also love all the people
tellin this guy and his dept what they did wrong, thank god the people
makin the comments never made mistakes on a job. Guess the people
commenting also know all the SOG's for this dept. Maybe instead of
criticizing we should thank them for the opportunity to use this for
training.
Not gonna bash the firefighters for how they handled things. They did what
they did. It's done. They've learned. My 'critic' comment is about the one
filming this with his helmet cam. I'm not sure if that was a glove that was
constantly in the way, but if it was, it ticks me off. Camming is good for
education, but it's not priority and he should have been focused on helping
everyone out. Just my opinion off what I saw.
Im going to have to armchair quarterback this one as well. The guy wearing
the helmet cam announced himself as a driver when contacting command at the
end. He was freelancing the entire time. Sorry. Never once did i hear
anybody give HIM an order. He just walked around telling people what to do,
and doing random things.... laddering a building, walking around, open a
garage door with fire behind it..... twice....
actually the whole point of the size up is to see the fire 360 degrees so
you know what you are dealing with so that you don't commit your resources
before you fully know where they are needed...what's to say that there
wasn't someone hanging out a window on the charlie side waiting for a
rescue and because you were so concerned about getting that deuce and a
half in the front door you never knew they were there
Was this your first fire? you never open a door expecally when its smoking
with no mask on, no gloves and no partner or a line. Seriously that should
have been thought through. Why did you go around back with fire coming out
the side with no partner? Why did it take so long to get a RIT crew in the
house? That was really good judgement on taking that hand line to the back.
How bad were the burns on his neck?
While the video is a little rough due to helmet cam and job being priority
1 this video shows a few good points. 1st on scene should of preformed a
size-up and started to ladder the structure. You preformed both of these
functions and had to pass others out good for you. One must always remember
that if S&R had a Pt they would have needed a second way out. Thank you for
your post and keep up the great work.

Come on Grant Napear, you forgot George Gervin and Carmelo Anthony scoring
33 in one quarter. David Thompson scored 32 in one quarter against the
Pistons.
This to me is the proof I use when I say that Klay is more important to the
Warriors than Curry. He scored and incredible 52 points and was completely
unstoppable on offense, but also was blocking the ball terrifically when
playing on defense. In my opinion, he is the better and a more valuable
player out of him and Curry
+DoubleDworth klay shoots a 3....... its good.... thats thompsons 40th 3 pointer made for the night..... tonights taco bell play of the night goes to some random guy in the celtics team, uh it was a tough shot to make, maybe the play of the night.....
When the score becomes 92-70:
Bob Fitzgerald (Warriors Commentators; CSN Bay Area feed): He's got it. His
three... GOOOODDDD!!!!!!! Have you ever seen anything like it?!!
Grant Napier (Kings Commentators; CSN California feed): Here's Klay
Thompson. No way. No way! Wait, that's just not right. That is unbelievable!
That's pretty funny to compare if you think about it. 5:28
Also, he made the basket at 6:27 after he got fouled. That's how you
know he really is on complete fire.
Klay Thompson sent a message to the Sacramento Kings with that performance:
You should've drafted me in the 2011 NBA Draft.
