+Off Grid Texas HomesteadThey are just starting to lay. We got three eggs yesterday which is the best yet. Some of the new hens we bought started laying an egg every other day or so, but they seem to be settling in a bit better now. May be time for the Cayenne soon :)

We have tried that before. Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean. It helps them just a bit, but what we have found is that the other birds sit on the perch and then the nest boxes fill up (not with eggs :)  ) and the eggs get messier. They seem to do pretty well without the perch - they are laying in the nest box! :)

i think the chickens wont care what it looks like as long as it works.....lol. that was a nice looking egg there at the end. we had chickens when i was a kid and i miss the fresh eggs dont miss the chickens though.... :)

The fact it is or isn't fancy doesn't matter to the hens, LOL  My nest boxes are nothing to brag about, but functional.
