As investigators try to figure out why a Northwest Airlines plane flew 150 miles past its destination, the flight and cockpit recorders are being brought to ...
It's a good thing they put that "Do not open" warning on the flight
recorders. Apparently they had a problem with flight attendants breaking
them open trying to find candy.
That's because, unlike cars, jet engines move forward by pushing against
the air, which takes a lot more power. A car's engine transmits power to
the wheels which push off of solid ground. It takes a lot less power to get
moving that way and it results in faster acceleration at first. However,
for distances more than a quarter mile, jet power will easily dominate over
piston power. The afterburning turbojet engine on that semi is easily
capable of breaking the sound barrier (761 mph)!
Top fuel cars are not faster. They just accelerate faster for the first few
seconds because the engines send power to the wheels which push off of
solid ground. The jet, however, is pushing against air to move forward,
which takes a lot more power. There's a complicated, indirect way of
estimating the hp of a jet engine and I can tell you that this jet engine
is much more powerful than a dragster engine. An afterburning turbojet
engine is easily capable of breaking the sound barrier.
No piston engine has ever or will ever come close to the sound barrier due
to the reciprocating nature of piston engines. Top fuel and formula 1
engines represent the limits of what's possible with piston power and they
have to be rebuilt after virtually every race due to the enormous inertial
forces and resulting stresses. They're on the brink of flying apart.
Meanwhile, a jet engine can produce its enormous power for thousands of
hours before needing an overhaul.
@C63AMGestate Horsepower is a measure of power, one HP is 746 watts. watts
are the amount of work done in one second. Work is Force measured in
newtons times distance is measured in meters. so if it take a jet engine 10
seconds to move a 12,000kg block 10m. you can accurately measure how much
horsepower is being put out. I agree comparing a jet engine to a combustion
engine is unfair, but it's entirely accurate.
the hp term for jets is misleading. power output on a jet doesnt work the
same as a piston engine. so when a jet produces x amount of hp, its
calculated based on thrust not tq. the slower the speed you are talking
about the more advantage a piston engine has... the faster, then it goes to
the jet...a 1/4 mile is right at the distance where these two concepts play
with each other
how do you figure hp numbers when you arepowering a rotating assembly
ending in wheels?? i could see 18,000lbs of thrust...top fuel cars are only
7-8,000hp and are WAY faster...18,000 hp couldnt be utilized in a vehicle
this small
i would have ran when that big ass ball of fire came out of the ass of that
thing lol. and when it kept banging the houses near the drag strip prolly
thought they were shooting artilery guns off at the drag strip ahaha.
Do us all a favor and take your shitty camera and video skills and shove
them up your inept ass! Stop polluting the net with video that looks like
it was shot in the 1970's!
Seems slow? Well considering thw wheels arent driven by a motor.... Its all
thrust once its moving it will keep picking up speed its the initial start
that is "slow"
haha i got there every year my friend is the one in the red at the
beginning we rednecks here in Kentucky but oh well get used to it:) lol
Clay City BOYS!!!!!
@0yasweet A while back i talked to the driver of "Rolling Thunder" and he
told me that they had to rotate a toggle switch sideways for the telemetry
system, because they discovered that the problem with it tripping off and
not getting data, was the G-forces from launching actually causing the
toggle handle to swing back, against the spring, and turning off the
telemetry system, that is allot of G's, i can imagine it would 5 or 6 G's
maybe more!
Misty is a beautiful women with a big strong husband, hes a sweet guy and
very careing, his arms are the size of my legs, misty use to drive funny
cars her hisband wanted her to drive jet cars because its less work on him
and less money to operate, and the person at the bottom saying he fucked
misty is a down right lieor, her husband could kill him with no problum,
this is a weak minded person saying this shit, misty is a respectable
lady,,!
Saw this while I was in Holiday down there, and damn. The longer dragster
(in the far lane) created a shockwave from the force of acceleration. Also,
the comment on burning a guy's hair is possible; I was in the 5th row on
the far side to the camera and my eyebrows were smoking.
@Ksharp1fan Humans grow up with interests, if its make up, cars, guns,
fashion. ect If a guy wants to work with fashion then thats his thing if a
women wants to drive a fast car, hell go for it.
Whats the difference between Top Jet dragsters and piston dragsters. Piston
engines are faster, over a quater mile and loud but . Jet engines are
hideously loud, and very l impressive.. .
These comments about there not being kitchens in the cars is pretty
ridiculous....seeing as most of you "boys" would be brown tracking
yourselves before they even fired it up.
pull up to a stop light and be like wanna race guys like sure then hears
jet start up 2 seconds later light turns green and already 3 miles down the
street
They looked like boxes fading into the background because of the 240p
quality.
