Carter world war 2 air raid siren
Here is a test of a 1936 dated Carter manufactured (of Nelson, Lancashire) air raid siren. This beauty is nearly 80 years old, saw world war 2 action, and still ...
Hi Bensyer. Thanks for your message. Yes, I'd been looking for a genuine
ww2 dated one for a while too. This one wasn't cheap! But everything is
there and I restoration is well underway. If you let me have you're
interested, let me have your email address and I'll send you some pics of
work in progress lol. Depending on how things go and the state of my
finances I may sell this at some point! You're right, you're very unlikely
to find "spares" anywhere :-(
I finally got one of these a couple of weeks ago, wanted one for years, but
my rotors are damaged and the housings for them are missing, just cant find
them or spares anywhere :(
@Aussie50 Yeah sounds like there the 2 to go for. :) Bugger, its a vz ss
ute, but it should cart it no worries with the v8 up front. As far as i
know there just got the thick plastic tub liner then its full steel
underneath. Yeah they can weigh a bit, worked with one at school well over
a year ago. Ill have to try work this out really soon with the transport!
I would buy the villiars if it wasnt seized up. Keep your eyes peeled for
more Holden engines! lol i am interested in making a stationary one if one
turns up good enough. Damn thats alot of wasted compressors, but guess
there there for a reason. Middys have awesome goodies :D, that radiation
detection will come in handy on that! Great tool overall tho :D
@mattyvt93 the 202 and 173 are indoors so I would recommend them above all.
the 186 as you saw was laying in the rain and mud. you'd get 2 on a palette
in the back of a tradesman Ute, not sure about one of those flimsy ones
like a maloo or SS. their not as big as the Jag 6 but still all cast iron
and heavy.
@Aussie50 Yeah i understand mate. If the 202 is the best out of them all?
if posible store it for a lil? if there is any spares around grab them too!
Im trying to picture the size of one again, but it aint happening, would
one of these or two? fit in a commodore ute? I can borrow one in a couple
of weeks!
@Aussie50 $150 sounds good mate!, considering what i see 1 of them go for.
What are the other two motors like? (202 and 173) If you grabbed them, how
long can you hold them for me? Just been in and out of hospital lately,
sometimes im not sure when im going in. But this should hopefully be over
shortly.
@Aussie50 Cool! let me know how it gos :) Madd! i would mainly be
interested in the 186 and 202! if there not all that expensive. or which
ever are the most 2 complete/better condition. Spares would be good too! :D
1 problem gotta try work out, how the hell im getting them home hahaha :/
@Aussie50 I would love to come pick them up! But when not at hospital, both
cars are in use :( i cant bloody win lol. I know it would be alot better if
i came and picked them up, but when the car is fit enough would it be
possible to drop off? I must be a pain in the ass lol.
@Aussie50 Thanks man! getting there :) Awesome, 202 sounds the goods :D 173
will be alrite if nothing major happened to it lol. 186 is the one in this
vid im guessing? I will need a bel housing on one of these or all of them,
to mount a starter motor im guessing?
@mattyvt93 nah sorry, the yard wants them gone ASAP and that means loaded
on a palette and dumped on a trailer immediately, I can't have them on my
trailer for weeks on end :(. I'll see if I can get one or 2 stored away on
site but the bulk of it needs to go.
Did you say it was summer time and it is hot and humid their - Holy Moly -
I'll trade you - it's 25F here in Chicago today. We are expecting 4 inches
of snow ! A bad day at the scrap yard their - is better than any day now -
here in ChiTown !
Such a shame the villiers mk 20 is seized, i fixed one of them a few months
ago it was off an old cement mixer, ignition was shagged and and the exaust
valve seat was rusted away, but go it going and they run like a beast! Not
bad for 9HP.
Hot weather!? we have a foot of snow here..... Those little BSA's are
wonderful engines, probably one of the best small engines ever made. The
Villiers is a great engine too, very well made, they just have a habit of
being awkward!
@steamwally The BSA's sure are chunky!, can't wait to get one open and see
how their built.. I may have a look at the seized one today if I get time
after clearing out the air-conditioner infestation I have at the moment :p
good vid. dam waso of new stuff. if that white small fan is good ill take
it.lol im looking fir smaller fans like that. i should get a nother testar.
i had one of them old white ones with a red light at the end. it die.
@mattyvt93 yeah the 186 is the one in the dirt, has an auto and drive
plate, there are 2 manual transmissions and bell housing/torque converter
assembly on the 202. you'll need starters, dissy caps, leads etc..
@DragonFlyback256 yeah tesla coils are a good beginners project, but as you
said, useless current output. building a good MOT stack will happen some
day tho, just got a lot of engines to sort out first.
@cheetawolf lol yeah I think I have around 30 MOT;s all up. and enough
parts for a serious Tesla coil :D I've been giving the electronics a rest
for a while but i may try a Tesla coil some time.
@mattyvt93 I'l assess the Villiers and see how bad it is, if its fixable
I'll offer it cheap. I cna get you 3 Holden red 6's, 173, 186 and 202, plus
spares.
@DasMidnightDrifter Wrong. These things put out as much volume, if not
more, than the 2001. Pitch has to do with the number of ports a siren has
(look up how a siren works if you need term definitions). The T-128 has 8
ports while the 2001 has 12, which makes it higher pitched than the T-128.
That simple change in ports is why most people prefer the T-128 to the
2001. Lower pitches get absorbed less by air than higher pitches do, not to
mention they just sound better.
@DasMidnightDrifter ASC claims 500Hz is the nominal pitch, but I would
assume that's just an average. The two closest T-128s to my house on the
other side of town sound at about 470Hz and 525Hz even during the summer.
If the batteries are going usually the pitch will drop considerably
throughout the activation.
Actually the 2001 is louder than a tbottle. The Tbottle produces
115db@100ft as the 2001 produces 130db@100ft. tbolts a great sirens but
they were out done.
