The rules allowed the Australian Based teams alot they COULD have done but
the reason they didnt? The GTR was just ahead of its time, by 10 years or
so. It would have taken insane amounts of money to make the local cars
competitive. The GTR was dominating all around the world it wasn't just a
problem in australia. The current series is ok, but they are race cars, a
category where the road car stumps up, a role cage, big brakes a bodykit
and a ecu and away you go, now that would be interesting
Who won Bathurst in 1990? A v8 which apparantly had "no chance". Anyway,
you said the v8s are "no fun", well you obviously haven't watched it
recently. The cars are so close and competitive, and have numerous close
finishes, but are "no fun"? Yet you had a gtr - a sports car - winning
touring car races by miles, but that was fun? And you honestly think that
there was an international rule change because of Aussie v8 fans?
Most of you people miss the point. It is formula racing, so there are
rules. They aren't reaching for the moon in ultimate engineering terms.
Just within their defined rules. And there is where the fun starts. And it
is all about ENTERTAINMENT!!!! I've seen plenty of races/seasons/series
where it soooooo dull because one car dominates. What, you really want to
go back to that stuff????
@mongymongmong if the VL group a SS turbo was developed instead of the
walkinshaw things may have been different and we would have kept this
wonderfull race we had with different cars, but Holden had already begun to
stab Brocky in the back. But in 2013 we will have The chrysler 300c and
soon more cars, With Skaife running the show we will have our old days back
!
never evicted you homo!!! they continued to race in Japan Group A for years
after but even the Japs "evicted" them. The 2013 Nissan V8 Super car will
just be the same chassis as the Ford an Holden but with Nissan Badges. Just
as the current Supercars have not direct relationship to the cars you buy
in the Ford and Holden showroom, neither will the Nissan!
@Skynet2029AD lol you idiot! Commys are nowhere! the only reason they
stopped or should i say banned the imports from australian touring car
series was, the imported cars were to good! and all the meat head v8 fans,
myself included wernt intersted in seeing their cars getting smoked by 4
and 6 cyl. thumbs up if you agree?
lol the commodore won this race with Grice and with another 3 more in the
top ten.................group C and Group A era absolutelty shits over the
new v8 superbores, they virtually identical cars, and with the joining of
nissan, they still going to be same car just different stickers like
NASCAR...
As skynet said, yes the V8 Holdens would have beaten the sierras. Have a
look at other races. Yes the imports were taken out of the competition,
because they were too good. BUT car specs were not regulated back then
power/weight. Also don't forget the GTR's were running 4WD, not rear wheel
drive
@RIEKSONE I would think so. RWD Porches still perform well without AWD do
they not? Without awd the skyline GTR would be even lighter. The car still
makes a lot of power and the entire chassis makes it a welll balanced
platform.
go the cossie !!! forget the gtr ,it could drive itself because it had so
much computer power on board where the cossie you had to drive and man it
was a god ar to wtch ,you just dont see exciting cars like them any more!!!
@mongymongmong I too was one of those V8 meat heads mate, but to be honest
, i don't like the V8 Supercar concept at all ... only Holden & Ford ?!?!
too boring . There are BMW, Porche, Mercedes & Audi V8 fans too you know !
@mongymongmong Not only that, but the format was not able to continue
because of budgetary constraints (as you would see with BTCC etc). I wish
we still had the variety/excitement of this kind of racing today... :(
@mongymongmong Yes and no. The 4 cyl and 6 cyl were normally turbo and or
sports cars. The Holden was a glorified taxi with a pushrod V8 rear wheel
drive. Different cars really which was a little unfair or uneven.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't it race against V8 Commodores....and
they got left so far in the dust by it and the GTR that Holden had a whinge
to the governing body and got the other two kicked out?
the cosworths and GTRs were superior to anything Australia was making
because Australia was making NA family sedans lol so these turbo sports
cars are better than auzzy taxis . good effort.
OW!!! Who built the engine in Seton's Ford. While the commentators were
throwing around big numbers for that Nissan,Seton's can could not be
passed.Who built the engine?
@ScaRau Because the FIA (who also runs the F1) was scared that this format
would take over popularity from the F1, so withdrew their support...
Disappointing really
@mongymongmong So it had nothing to do with the Group A category being
defunct as most countries had moved on to their own rules i.e. BTCC, DTM,
JGTC???
