Thanks. I've recently developed a product and filed for a provisional
patent. I've located several manufacturers in China and have requested
quotes for mold tooling and item price. Most of the manufacturers have
replied asking for my Auto CAD file for a quote. I'm very concerned about
sending my CAD design file as once they have it, there's nothing stopping
them from producing and selling my product; especially if I decide not to
go with that particular manufacturer.
+goodtimes Thank you. Its been a great and fun 17 years. Plus we've made a lot of great friends from the small brand owners WizardDistribution.com.I've not heard of that company. It's a huge population (a billion more people than us) but they could be capable and reliable. They are in Guangdong which is near the factory that makes all my products. You could ask them for verifiable references. As far as mold costs, ask for specific specs for each mold so you can compare. Silicon molds are typically pretty inexpensive. But depends on how many parts per mold and mold construction types. If the factories capabilities and reliability are a concern you could hire a factory inspection company such as AsiaInspection.com to verify.
+Billy Carmen Thanks for the reply. Looks like you've got quite a line of products going. This is my first. I'm venturing this on my own and trying to figure it out as I go. Have you heard of these guys: //hzxinhong.en.alibaba.com/company_profile.html and //szsongxin888.en.alibaba.com/company_profile.html . I've thus far narrowed it down to them, but their mold pricing is night and day. One asking $700 and the other 1800. Is this normal?
it's always smart to know who you are dealing with and have proper agreements. That is important regardless of USA or China or anywhere. Actually probably more likely to get ripped off with USA manufacturers... I've spent 20 years trying to make my products (wizind.com) in the USA and no one has been able to beat quality, price or performance from China. If I can help in any way let me know. I'm happy to mentor or brainstorm.
