Agreed there. I actually just bought a license for it, because I know at
some point there will be a Windows-only game that I want to play (I've got
a bunch in Steam currently, and just installed Black Mesa, lol), and it
seems to be an easy way to capture system audio + my microphone. Eh, what
can you do?
I know you've said this before, but I'll say it. Use what works. Most of
the gaming vids on my channel were recorded in Windows, because, well, it's
what works. (plus my capture card for recording consoles has no drivers for
Linux, so i have no choice, but whatever). No shame if you have to.
Well. Linux were made for a lot of things. Just not gamin, I'm afraid. At
least the market isn't there yet. A great capturing solution and an actual
fix for the audio issue, and we are there. Ubuntu will become mainstream
one day, and we'll have all these things too, I hope.
I've been thinking pretty hard about it, and I might just have to. Sitting
in Windows right now, testing out the trial version of Fraps, and it seems
to have the functionality I need, aside from potentially having a
facecam... but I can probably work that out later.
I need to do some more testing on my AMD desktop with Kazam, and move my
AMD graphics card to my Intel machine to test with Kazam there. For some
reason I just get a gstreamer buffer overflow, and I haven't been able to
find any logs related to it yet. Frustrating.
Great stuff. Pity about your recording issues, although what we're seeing
(the end result) looks fine and seems as good as any of the equivalent
gameplay recordings on Windows. Guess the problem is the pain you have to
go through to get it to this stage :p
"the market isn't there yet" -- That's the big thing, in my opinion. There
are still a buttload of games that just don't support Linux yet, but with
Valve bringing Steam to Linux, the Unity 4 engine bringing new games, etc.
we have a bright future ahead.
Nah, not a republican. Not particularly political, to be honest. I'm pretty
liberal in my viewpoints, but I generally view voting as just picking the
lesser of two evils, because the third party candidate pretty much never
has a shot...
What's wrong with having it zoomed to where it fills the screen? I'm
starting to think more and more that I might just have to go with Windows
to do game captures, sadly, but I'm fighting hard to avoid it.
Yeah Fraps is great. It's easy to use, produces good quality/framerates, no
encoding required after, and most importantly, it always works! (for games)
It's like GLC, but without all the hassle.
:) Took a few minutes this morning and made that. Going to try to put
together one for the Minecraft videos as well, but for some reason it won't
let me load a skin to the minecraft servers...
I'd say it looks acceptable, but it could definitely be better. There were
some major graphical glitches in some of the levels I saw in the recording
that I didn't notice while playing.
