Maria Bamford On TBS: Just For Laughs (Very Funny.)
+Neil Highley ... I was a lifelong fan of Robin's too.. too soon? Don't leave me hanging on this comment said David Carradine, how many jokes was that two?
"using 'autistic' as an insult...really?" Yeah, cerealforthewhale, actually both of my sister's kids are autistic, seriously, and I'd like to invite you to kiss punkpoetry's ass.
What you imagine would be "par for the course" with someone like me is one thing, and whatever I've actually claimed is whatever I've actually claimed. "I love Stanhope" Hell yeah.
+Joseph Scott True, I just don't think he's one. I do love many ABOFAL sketches but not anything he's done after that. Nowdays he's just a twee gentleman waffling on ad nauseam on panel shows Re staw man: if you subcribe to the age-old binary between "book learning" and "lived wisdom", such uniform view of the former is very much par for the course. Btw I love Stanhope, even downloaded the torrent with all the bootlegs!
+cerealforthewhale You're coming off full of yourself too. It's hard to call people out for being pompous with any actual weight when you're the problem too. Also, using "autistic" as an insult...really? Please, if you want any credibility as an informed, intelligent person, maybe skip that sort of insult.
"the belief that systematic learning can only produce one kind of insight rather than open up endless possibilities..." Straw man. And don't forget, re Fry, that some people happen to be people who both are very insightful and like to use big vocabulary words.
+cerealforthewhale I thought I did address his point: for me the best reply I could possibly get is one questioning the assumptions underlying my argument, let's say a dodgy binary I'm overly reliant on. You are right though that one doesn't have to be American to use "butthurt" (it's the internet after all), you just have to be a 4chan-level moron. As for me allegedly equating large vocabulary with intelligence - I don't really. Those who do are into Russell Brand and Steven Fry and other bores who are miles away from my favorite comedians.
+punkpoetry hahaha you're so full of yourself it's beyond me. Not surprised in the slightest your blatant disregard for addressing Joseph Scott's actual point to, not to mention the fact you outright assume i'm American. I really must have struck a chord with you and your attempts to pass yourself of as some intellectual are fooling no one, and your utter shit taste and correlation of intelligence and vocabulary proves that point even more. I can't wait to see what your autistic ass comes up with next in order to try and defend your tasteless, pompus opinion. And don't worry, i know you'll reply too, your autism prevents self control
+Joseph Scott While your distinction has some obvious validity, there's something delightfully American about the belief that systematic learning can only produce one kind of insight rather than open up endless possibilities to investigate the infinitely rich and complex realm of culture by which we're all bound (yes, even the kind of Americans who use "butthurt").
+punkpoetry "the way you believe yourself qualified to hand down grades for smartness to the likes of Eddie Izzard is really... impressive" I don't have to be smarter than Eddie to know that when he relies on playing around with his book learning about history to appear "intelligent" (he's showing off that he's conventionally very educated and has a good memory), that's demonstrating a different kind of "intelligence" than Stanhope and Bamford impress me with.
+Joseph Scott Amen. Although I've heard Proops on a lot of podcasts, and he's actually a lot smarter (both comedically and like, in life) than you would have thought. But yeah totally agree with your statement.
+jklroxmysox111 She's smarter than Eddie Izzard imo. There's a difference between remembering a lot of book learning about history or vocabulary or the like, like Izzard or Greg Proops can, and having, imo, the intelligence about life itself of a Bamford or Stanhope.
+cerealforthewhale I totally agree. I love her and she is clever, but I wouldn't say her jokes are particularly intellectual or that she's one of the smartest out there. Eddie Izzard, on the other hand....
+cerealforthewhale lol alright man. I don't have to convince you, and I'm not alone in thinking Bamford is a sharp comedian. She's very well respected by the alt-comedy world, especially by other comedians. If you don't think she's funny, fine. But if you think it's about impersonations and funny sounds; you're not getting the jokes.
+Colin Bell I feel like this might be a ignorance is bliss type moment for you but please enlighten me on even just one piece of clever material in this.
