Violence against women: the end begins with men | Patricia Shea | TEDxNashville
Patricia Shea addresses the issue of violence against women, drawing on her research and her frequent talks on women's issues, including testifying at ...
To the men complaining about this Ted Talk: You win. Men are the real
victims. It must be rough always having to fear the possibility of rape
when walking alone to your car. I bet the pepper spray on your keychain is
a hassle. You're right, lets redirect the focus. Maybe that'll cut back on
the rape statistics and human trafficking. Maybe that will also solve the
need for battered women and children shelters. Thanks again to those that
are redirecting the focus by shedding light on the suffrage of men.
Get back to me when men's white, sleeveless tanks are renamed
"husband-beaters"
Fuck off Heather; more men get raped if one includes prison rape, more men are fatally attacked on our streets, mothers are the primary abuser of their children... Your reasoning is faulty, thus stop defending the plantation narrative you seem to have . Fuck off Heather!Oh wait but I am a 16 y o old white male.
+Heather Bryan This video was certainly a lot better than I expected, although I know where some of the hostile knee-jerk reactions come from. The term "violence against women" as it's used creates an illusion of disproportionate risk for women that predominates over other forms of violence. I grew up believing in that illusion, and it meant I made excuses for the ex-girlfriend who would beat me, or the woman in my family who physically and mentally abused me in my childhood, and it made me vulnerable to the older woman who molested me when I was 8 years old. This brainwashing trapped me with abusers. The narrative surrounding violence against women becomes a weapon an abuser uses to control her victim. You mention fearing the possibility of rape when walking alone to your car. Is that fear proportional to the risk? - the CDC found as many men who were "made to penetrate" (as in forced into sex against their will) as women who were raped: //time.com/3393442/cdc-rape-numbers/ Redirecting the focus to recognise female-perpetrated violence against men actually stands a very good chance of cutting back the rape or abuse statistics against women. Abusive behaviour is often a symptom of unresolved psychological damage: //news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2732083.stm = abuse by a woman is more likely to result in a childhood victim of abuse becoming an abuser.//bjp.rcpsych.org/content/179/6/482 = "A high percentage of male subjects abused in childhood by a female relative became perpetrators. Having been a victim was a strong predictor of becoming a perpetrator, as was an index of parental loss in childhood."On the need for battered women and children's centres, redirecting the focus would do a lot to deal with the number 1 risk-factor for women of abuse://www.huffingtonpost.com/glenn-sacks/researcher-says-womens-in_b_222746.html I'll stop there because I don't want to rant/preach, the point I'm making is the violence is interrelated and sweeping part of that violence under the rug is a major contributor towards future violence.I hope that helps.
Men have always been protective of women and children. Men even tolerate
women striking them without retaliating, but with all these exaggerations
and lies, the times they are a changing.
This kind of feminist male shaming is only hurting a noble cause. The focus
should be ending violence towards children, women and men. Female
narcissism pushes people away.
Men suffer far more from violence and premature death than women. Women
live longer, healthier and get much more government support.
The following links, in the reply, show that women commit domestic violence
in comparable numbers to men.

+ccc0mb0_bReakeR +ccc0mb0_bReakeR Narcissism? Really? Sometimes people speak on topics that are personal to them. Never did she say that violence towards children and men aren't as important. Would you also agree that those fighting for breast cancer awareness are narcissists because they should be fighting for ALL cancer awareness? You're missing the point. Don't be so defensive.
