How to Use an Airlock
//winemakersacademy.com Airlocks are the key to making fantastic wine. They protect our wine from harm while still allowing carbon dioxide to escape.
I have one question, when people refer to clean water, does that just mean
regular tap water, or does the water need to be treated somehow prior to
using it?
+cubedg6611 You can just use tap water, however I use starsan (no rinse sanitiser). You can also use vodka. The main reason for this is if some draws back in to your brew it's not a problem.
Glad you found it useful! Without the water this style airlock won't do much for you. They do make waterless airlocks too but they're not as common. Cheers!
Pretty much get a pill bottle and drill a hole in the bottom and stick a
hollow pen inside and super glue it sealed then drill hole in the cap then
put a cap on top of the pen inside the bottle and add water. Bam. Free.

HI All, Do you remember the Star San i set aside in a wine bottle from my original Star San test? Sorry about the delay, here is the follow up to my original ...
Thanks for the update Immo. I need to pick up some test strips to check
mine. I use tap water with my Star San. After storing the mixture for
months, it stays clear without clouding up.
@1jerryf well no type of sanitizer is effective above a pH of 3 but if you
don't want to take my word for it you can hear the owner of five star say
it on a number of podcasts
@glitch777 That's what I wanted to find out as I also keep a spray bottle
of Star San....my local water table doesn't seem to affect the PH over long
term
