I don't think it was a tie. I think the Jim guy was the only one making
complete sense. I'm sixteen and I want to be unschooled but my mom won't
let me. It frustrates me. I was ahead of everyone in elementary but when I
got into to junior high and high school I got uninterested because it
wasn't fun. I believe that unschooling is the way to go. The parents should
list off subjects in to their kids the schooling program and show a video
or take them on a field trip to see what catches their interest. They
should ask about things the kids want to learn and let their kids have
control which helps them develop self reliant decision skills which will
help later in life. I think they should let their kids decide on what to
do. I don't want the kids my age that went through the school system to be
in charge because look at how messed up the system already is with the
people who did go through the school system. And unschooling is one on one
where as in a classroom some kids don't ask for help because they are
uncomfortable in that situation. I'm not speaking for every kid. I think
that kids and teenagers have a right to choose for themselves on what
schooling they want to do. I think it is messed up that we can't decide for
ourselves on what type of schooling we want. Some parents actually let
their kids decide and I give them props for that. The world is messed up
and now kids are learning to rely on others to tell them what to do. There
are skills in unschooling that I want which aren't taught in school. They
may teach how to do math and stuff in school but they don't teach us how to
survive in this messed up world. I think my rant is over now.
+marissa wolf Have you thought about an independant study program ? Each district is different and state has different laws.. I would contact your high school that you attend or the school district if they offer an independant study program. I was in the public education system from K-6 but my siblings and I were in the gifted program ( honor program) that you have to be tested into the program. But my siblings and I attended a private school 7-12 through a scholarship ( we would not have afforded) and boy what a difference....
I've been unschooled my whole life and I found this incredibly painful to
watch. Jim was pretty much the only guy who had any idea what he was
talking about. The other two need to actually learn about things before
arguing against it.
Nice video! Do you have an updated version for 2012. I work with KAWC one
of the partner radio stations and will help you promote the event with our
social media if so. Thanks!
