moving from Midwest to Texas. Really want to live in Dallas but everyone
on these comments is all 'AUSTINNNN' 'HOUSTONNN'. Dont want to base it off
youtube comments so maybe a reply would help? Im leaning towards Dallas,
Austin really that much better? 22 years old, college grad.
Taking an extended weekend trip to Dallas/Austin/SA (if time) next weekend. I'll let yall know my opinions after that. Will check out every area I'm interested in. SA has randomly warmed up to me a lot to make things more indecisive... seems like an older crowd tho but I need a MIX of Austin and Dallas and that may be it.
Good info. Thanks. Either way...they are within driving distance of eachother so you can get the best of both until figuring out 'the one' to stay at. Just Austin is friggin expensive now. I dont think under $1000 for a place even exists there. I'm checkin vids out now tho thanks
+AirCanada1J5Sounds like you have it all planned out. Id say watch a lot of Dallas videos on here. Search dallas drive hwy etc... Lots of cool tours around the city. Same with Austin check those out. Good for getting a feel for the place. BTW there are lots lakes, hiking biking trails here too like Austin..even some decent hills on the southwest side.
Plus the place I have lined up in Dallas for under $1000 a month in The Village community looks like a great place for a young 20 year old. The pools, creek, facilities are something I've never had and would enjoy while being on my own now. Seems like a good dating city too, with no hometown ex-gf ghosts to deal with. But seriously if I'm wrong let me know. It would be cool to say "I'm in Austin now" and get a lot more visitors (because everyone just scratches their head when I say 'Dallas' and probably wont be visiting much..). I am worried about the size, never been in a place that massive, but it seems spread out? I think that makes a huge difference..I can't stand feeling clausterphobic with no space.
I can tolerate rich douchebags to an extent. I enjoy rich peoples parties...can't lie. Now the arrogant hipster flooding tragedy that has occured in all these great cities (Austin, San Fran, Madison, Minneapolis, Denver, etc etc) I cannot tolerate. It's not just hipster it's the over abundance of turquoise shoe wearing arrogant, insecure, manipulators you got running around everywhere..I CANT tolerate. The idea of a balance sounds good to me. I like grounded level-headed smart people, who like to have fun, adventure, selfless...obviously theres no utopia for all that but my gut says a place like Dallas will have more of these peopl and just a mix of a lot of people versus a place like Austin (correct me if I'm wrong) that is pretty much run over by hipster smug nowadays.
Check this out. //www.skyscrapercity.com/tags.php?tag=dallasGives you an overview of all the projects. Hi Forum Tower is about the 9th one down from the top. Many other forums are buzzing about it too like Skyscraperpage, DallasMetropolis...
+Aidan DYes the Park Cities. SCOTS! haha. I went to Lake Highlands HS actually but went to a couple of HP parties back in the day.Yes the skyline is growing. My hobby is keeping up with that on the architecture forums....And lemme tell you its about to change dramatically in a couple of years. The monsters are coming. A possibility of 3 supertalls if everything goes right. One is being reviewed right now. Tallest in the USA outside of NY and CHI..fingers crossed
+Aidan DYea, we have the Uptown uppity douchbags. They live in all the highrises that Dallas is throwing up every 5 mins. (Which I actually like, thats another topic) The Design destrict and Deep Elum are about to start sprouting highrises soon so now we will have more laid back douchbags. Its good to have douchbag diversity.
+JasnoGT Dallas really doesn't have much. The most annoying thing to me about Dallas is how pretentious some people here are. But then again all cities have those people
+AirCanada1J5 Haha. I was overgeneralizing a little bit but it gets the point across.Truthfully though we cant blame the city. From what I hear Austin wasnt always like that. In the past it was more laid back hippie than hipster. Hippies dont bother me. I'd say it started about 20 years ago when all the douchebags decided to make it their Mecca of the south. Truthfully you'll find some of them in Dallas and Houston but a lot less. More of a balance. Fort Worth is cool too.
+JasnoGT "Austin is amazing as well especially if you love to be surrounded by a bunch of hipster liberal try-hard douchbags." LMAO. That is exactly what I wanted to hear because that is what I kind of figured and why I'm choosing Dal. The reason why Austin gets talked about so much and all the hype compared to the other two is because of those people I feel like...they promote their city as the best thing in existence because that's just what liberal hippy douchebags do. I'm from a place like that right now, which I hate..not the city (Austin is probably sweet to) but because the people..yet was looked at like I was crazy for thinking Dallas over Austin. I'm more in the middle conservative/liberal, but I can tolerate right wingers over in your face liberal bullshit. Oh and when it comes to competing for girls the jealous manipulation those try-hards have to pull is just getting old.
+AirCanada1J5 Dallas, Houston, Austin.....To tell you the truth they're all great! Houston is Dallas' bigger brother and near the ocean. Dallas is great has more hillls, Light snow in winter and only 3 hours from the Ouachita or Wichita Mountains. Austin is amazing as well especially if you love to be surrounded by a bunch of hipster liberal try-hard douchbags.
+Aidan D I don't believe it's North North, just north of uptown. the village is where I'd be. never living in an uptown, you'll learn that one day. Just because there is tons of beautiful ladies, it's not good for guys to live in. gotta seperate work and play, to some degree. I've lived in an uptown before. after college you want fun still but some space and quiet for weekdays. this spot is 15 from my job downtown and 15 from uptown.
+AirCanada1J5 I live just north of downtown. There is lots of stuff north of dallas. Yea Dallas is good because no income tax too. I don't know how much stuff for young people there is north though. Have you tried looking at uptown. There are way more people your age. As opposed to Plano or Frisco to the north which is just lots of families.
+AirCanada1J5 yea we have plenty of Lakes within driving distance. Depending where you live some suburbs are next to big lakes. We are not in a draught anymore too. What sector are you in? If you are in technology definitely come to Dallas. I am in HighSchool but I think the girls here are nice
+Aidan D It did, thank you. From an out of stater who has never even been to TX, all you hear about is Austin...and how it's the place to be, but my gut was Dallas..and part of me thinks Austin gets hyped so hard because in all honesty the liberal core of it is responsible for spreading the word stronger ...that's just the way it is, they promote their places better and on the internet more. I think Austin still seems like a great place, but it also seems excessive for me to be surrounded by that much music, art and concerts EVERYDAY everywhere..rather than just a 3 hour drive from Dallas for ones I really want to attend.. hopefully I make the right choice. I'm a single guy now who's focused on his career and new adventures. need to have fun tho and meet a new lady. hopefully Dallas delivers. there's still water there? just not an ocean but good lakes at least?
+AirCanada1J5 Dallas is great. Austin is going to be more liberal than Dallas. Houston is close to the beach but it gets miserabley hot and humid in the summer. Dallas is also the biggest out of the three. I have friends from austin and hoston who all like dallas better. It also has a massive airport so you can fly way more places than austin and houston. Evreything is pretty spread out. Traffic usually isn't bad. The weather is great except the summers(I have seen 108 this summer)which get too hot. And Dallas is pretty cheap. Hope this helped
@XaldinTheNom Please reconsider that. Dallas just doesn't have much going
on. The downtown is pretty empty after dark, and not far from downtown,
strip malls, shopping centers, and one story houses all looking pretty much
alike. People are not real cultured, and the summers are hellish. Like way
hellish. If you're going to go to Texas, go to Austin. Just my 2 cents. It
works for some people.
Grew up here and moved away from Dallas 17 years ago. With the exception of
family visits, I have no plans to return. It is a boring wasteland.
Everyone goes out to bars and restaurants because there is nothing much to
do.
me either...it's so weird and it's not like those places cost anymore than
chilli's, or olive garden. I'll be checking out evrything I can this
spring/summer cause my city rocks and we gotta get into it.. ;-)
The DFW Area has so much to do, is a beautiful city, But this video is
terrible, the music, effects, editing don't really elegantly showcase what
the DFW has to offer and this video just sucks... alot.
One of the pics you showed (0:38) for the World Aquarium part was Fair
Park. The Fair Park aquarium and the World Aquarium are different. But I do
LOVE the World Aquarium!
Well I for one love Dallas... there is tons to do if you're willing to
drive, i moved here from South Africa and Im pretty happy so far despite
the DEVLISH heat!!!!
There really isn't much to do in Dallas but dine and shop. The more fun
stuff is in Grapevine, Fort Worth, and Arlington. And even then, there
isn't much to do....
There's nothing to do in Dallas but eat and shop. It's a pretty boring ass
