i am very sorry, the mini recorder DOES NOT WORK !!! I receive only BLACK
screen, nothing else with sony RX100, OLYMPUS EM-5 . macbook pro, osx
10.8.4 , 16g ram . blackmagic driver 7.7 . i saw so many complains in the
blackmagic forum, no response from the company. Did you every try any other
camera ? i buy this watching your very useful -to me - screencasts , but

I have a canon xlh1 camcorder and the firewire port is not working and i
try to use a blackmagic ultrastudio mini Recorder to capture a video from
camera to mac in addition i use final cut pro and adobe element the problem
is my computer is not found the recording to capture if you know a solution
for this problem give me some advice. thanks

hi there i have mini recorder going into a early 2011 mbp connected to a
PAL panasonic camera via SDI. I can get a signal into the blackmagic media
express software (DV PAL 50i) but when I launch skype (rolled back to 5.7)
the blackmagic options show up but i just get black video when I try to
select them, any thoughts? cheers

I have the Mini Recorder since it came out last year. we did some
livestreaming with camtwist after seeing your video i think the mini
recorder ist much mightier than i expected you can do some nice (hard)
switching between the hdmi and sdi port when you plug in a camera on both
ports.

If you have two Thunderbolt ports, can you link up BOTH of these devices?
I'd like to use a new Macbook to ingest footage but then playback without
having to switch out the cables... Also is Blackmagic Media Express a paid
software or does it come bundled with either of the devices?

No the Ultrastudio Mini Monitor does not work as an external monitor. It
has to be driven from software like the two examples in the video. We have
been told that this is a limitation of the Apple development tools but have
not confirmed this. There is no GPU power in the unit

so if im shooting with say a sony fs700 camera and i get a SDI output from
the camera and put the cable on the ultrasound mini RECORDER and then go to
programs like FCP or PREMIERE PRO, i can capture what i'm seeing thru the
fs700 camera and do edit of the video?

My graphics card in my Macbook pro Rentia display (in-built HDMI) is not
the best for outputting video from OnTheAir Express, will the UltraStudio
mini monitor make a difference?

No it won't help in this situation. The application has to support the mini
monitor. It doesn't have a GPU.

just got one today, works fine and just as the reviewer described, so
thanks! For anyone who might still be confused, you just enter the height
of the object in meters, in my case a piece of A4 which is 30cm so 00.3m,
so just enter in 000.3 into the rangefinder, stand back to where you want
to shoot from, hold the base line (black horizontal line at the bottom in
the optic) at the bottom edge of the object, in my case the sheet of A4 and
press the adjust button until the top line travels down to the top of the
object, in my case the top edge of the A4. I had previously measured the
distance with a tape measure just to check this tool's accuracy and found
it to be spot on; it told me the sheet of A4 was 33 yards away which it is,
I tried it a bit closer to double check, again at a premeasured distance of
7 yards and again the range finder was correct. Very simple really.

The height can only be entered in meters, so the shortest item you can use for reference would be 10cm or 00.1m as the display only offers one decimal point placement ie 00.0

pure rubbish , full of flaws , as are all these range finders . cant see
over hills , cant see round doglegs, cant see through trees. utterly
useless , unless you think your cool... NOT . sky caddie sg5 GPS . does all
these things and more.

H yes, but what you are forgetting is some golf courses, and most hunting locations are in wooded areas and obscure locations, this no gps, sky caddie fails, however the rangefinder doesn't rely on any outside sources... Just saying been scuppered by no gps on my iPhone so a gps won't be any better...
