Is it ok to breed lions for sport? - Louis Theroux's African Hunting Holiday - BBC
Contains some strong language. Louis tries to get his head around breeding animals purely for sport, but the breeder isn't very happy with Louis' line of ...
If it were not for hunting there would be no species left in Africa !!!?
wtf ! Louis just didnt need to say a thing, that man was a complete idiot !
How is this allowed, just shows what the rich still get away with :(
Disagree completely . Louis evoked ( unintentionally somewhat ) a natural honest response from the man . The bigger picture is without the hunting , there would be no farming , the farms and surrounding areas would be wasteland or industrial sites. The culture of farming aswell as the habitat for these species would be ruined . Animals will still be hunted but to extinction like during colonial times to make space. At least these industries control hunting and maintain the livelihoods of farmers
With all the comments I've read I think I've come up with a somewhat
interesting question in relation to what people are talking about: Would
you rather (a)allow a species to become extinct, or (b)have it survive but
the value depends solely on the act of hunting. Is it better to breed an
animal in containment for the sake of being killed (sometimes humanely,
often not), or is that fate worse than extinction?
It's just a theoretical question, not a real-life example. But the idea of
hunting sustaining the life of a species suggests that hunting is the only
thing sustaining the life of that species.
Ultimately it's unfair that the existence of these animals (who have evolved in the African continent during millions of years ) is determined by human endeavour and it is sad . But it is the unfortunate reality of human existence that our behaviour and culture has permeated so thoroughly that its effects can change earths environment so much. Hunting in this respect is a ' new 'cultural practice involving these traditional farmers in order to give themselves a purposeful existence aswell as the animals within a modern developing human reality .
The thing that most people forget is that these animals don't know what
life could have been. These animals are ignorant of the natural lives of
their counterparts. So, who are you to tell these people what the animals
want? Who are you to tell this man that breeding animals for sport is
wrong? Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?
eh. you could relate it to an ignorant child knowing nothing other than abusive parents. they aren't high primates as ourselves however it takes something special to be so indifferent to another being
+ospartiatis Myself included, but I appreciate the dynamics involved in this situation; there are countless issues raised in this short video that I couldn't possibly expand my thoughts on them all- in fact I'd have a hard enough time with just one. Though I suppose it's like that for most (or all) of the Louis Theroux documentaries

Don't really care how much money he's putting in the slot machines. Glad
you got Louis' joke. Maybe I was being a little harsh, but the impression a
lot of us get is that Americans don't get a lot of our jokes. That said,
there is A LOT of comedy from the States that I find extremely funny -
Simpsons, South Park, Curb Your Enthusiasm and much more - and that's all
smart and refined stuff, so I'm sure it's not the case that people don't
get jokes. This bell-end didn't, though, that's for sure.
the way he pronounces his vowels is much more in line with the American
accent, like "not" pronounced more like "nAt" as opposed to "naught" (the
latter being canadian; much the same way Americans say "sawrry" and
canadians say "sorry"). So while he may be from Toronto, I'd say he has
either spent a number of years in the States or was born there.
'Let's not analyze it'. According to someone it was some profound comment
on cultural differences! Somehow the fact that it being an already famous
joke on an American sitcom (the biggest sitcom ever!) is of no importance
too! I think you should be a big enough person to admit that your point was
a lot of crap!
Yes, I realise that. And I did actually mean that myself in my original
post. I must say, the guy doesn't sound like he has a Canadian accent to
me. Can anyone put me right on that one??? Whatever, he clearly doesn't get
Louis' joke, which is pretty embarrassing for him, but pretty funny for the
rest of us.
Ff he doesn't have a sense of humour....oh well. He's hardcore too; he's
sitting with Louis shoving $100 after $100 in the machines. As for the
joke, I'm an American and understand Theroux's humour.
Actually I suspect that Louis is using a line from the American sitcom
Seinfeld where Jerry goes 'Why didn't you get the big one?' in response to
George getting a ridiculous huge fur hat.
Yeah, probably not. There's a similarity, I suppose, but I think the gag is
probably an original. Louis is a pretty witty chap. Whatever, let's not
analyse it. It made me laugh.
Is Toronto no longer part of the Americas then? It is, by the way, in case
you're struggling with answering that. And his answer absolutely epitomises
the aforementioned gulf.
It's very obvious from Rich's body language that he really doesn't like
Louis at all. Probably didn't like his line of questioning concerning his
'friend' Alan.
That guy doesn't like anyone apart from losers making the casino money ! His role is a role of an actor, not much to do with if he likes anyone. Spent lots of time in casinos and I assure you floor managers hate winners
