If you no longer have a PFH, at that point interest will capitalize. The total amount that can be capitalized is limited to 10% of the principal balance when the loans entered the Pay As You Earn Repayment plan.During any period of time that you do not have a PFH, interest can capitalize, such as during periods of a deferment or forbearanceIncome-Based Repayment—Interest will not be capitalized while you have a PFH. If you no longer have a PFH, at that point interest will capitalize.During any period of time that you do not have a PFH, interest can capitalize, such as during periods of a deferment or forbearance.Income-Contingent Repayment—Your monthly payment amount could be less than the interest that accrues. The interest that is not satisfied by your monthly payment is capitalized annually. The amount of interest that capitalizes is limited to 10% of the original loan balance when you entered repayment. +Derek032789 Form 982 is an insolvency worksheet. So if you are proven to be insolvent, you are correct, all or part of your forgiveness which would normally be taxable would not be. Also there is rumor this may change from cancellation to forgiveness and all would be forgiven but this has not actually happened yet!
