I used the auto/default settings and I guess a clean window helped too. I also purposely sat on the side of the cabin that was away from the sun. I think since the camera doesn't emit any single, like a cell phone, that it's all right to use at takeoff. I believe it's the same as using a still camera, I hope.

Yes, those are C-130's of the Nevada Air National Guard 152nd Airlift Wing. When I was staying at Lake Tahoe you can some times see them fly over. I believe they were recently involved with the search for adventurer Steve Fossett who went missing and died in the local mountains.
