The Wankel rotary engine is a unique piece of engineering and I believe
that the FIA and ACO back then got pissed off that a Japanese car outran
all the German cars. The R26B was actually the must reliable rotary ever
produced by Mazda and with that came the 787B's win at Le Mans. It would be
a huge surprise if Mazda returned to Le Mans with rotary power and outruns
the competition again.
