And don't do what this guy did by hooking up the positive cable last. You always want to pull the ground off FIRST when disconnecting and hook up the ground LAST when connecting, this will prevent a short circuit (ZAP). If you want to convert post terminal to sidepost, you can buy a screw in stud that screws into the side terminal and allows you to connect your top post terminal to it. Another way to convert side-post to top post is to completely cut off the side terminal, strip back the rubber about 3/4 of an inch and buy the top post terminals that have 2 bolts that compress the wire between the terminal such as in the old school vehicles (anything prior to the invention of the sidepost battery) I do not like the sidepost battery terminals and always convert over to post terminals. It is a better connection and gives you something good to connect to if you need to boost a vehicle or receive a boost.

worked great!!!!! saved my ass. thank you. also any battery works as long as its the same size or bigger than the bad battery just make sure the hood can close also throw some electrical tape on the top side of the terminals so when the hood closes it doest touch metal. lots of tape.

Thank you, I don't know who the evil person was that invented the hard-to-jump side post battery, but I will retire mine with a user-friendly top post one when it dies.

How about if its the opposite and you want to change a top battery to a side battery?what is the name of the part you need to do that?

I used a ford explorer battery and put it in a chevy caviler. so any battery works. hope this helps anyone in need
