Just fixed mine, however mine had had a full battery the whole time. Try plugging it in to your computer's USB port, then holding the menu and center buttons until it restarts. Then just wait a few minutes and it should sync with iTunes. If not, try resetting it completely by putting it into disk mode, restoring the iPod and then doing the aforementioned steps. Good luck!

Did you tried to plug it in a different USB port from your PC/Laptop? I was having the same problem, but with luck, I just changed the USB port and iTunes didn't crashed [usually, iTunes crashed]. If you have the chance to try, do it. Else, continue your life without it. :( Let me know if it worked for you.

My ipod is doing the exact same thing! I plugged my headphones into it, and it froze, so unplugged the headphones, pressed Menu and the center button, and now, all it's doing is showing me the apple logo, it won't let me do ANYTHING!

hold the circle thing in the middle down. press it twice then hold it down. I promise it works. I JUST got mine back from doing that.. gave mee a mini heart attack.
