I love playing in the HRE, but 1.13's aggressive expansion changes have
made expanding almost impossible for the first 50 years a reasonable
province ~10 development will net you a huge amount of ae and you will have
to restrain yourself for a good decade before you have enough space to take
another province. I don't mind improving relations and balancing relation
ships to shrink coalitions in the HRE, I actually find min maxing the
relations to be fun at times bur as is a non coastal minor jas little
change of gaining significant territory in the first 100 year at least even
with the correct ideas and good use of improve relations.

+Irish IdentityNo, he did predict that the distance would be far less than it actually was. That's why the king of Portugal didn't accept his offer, he knew the distance was a lot greater than Columbus's estimate, and Columbus would probably not make it. Fortunately for Columbus, there was another landmass in the way, far closer to Europe, so he didn't just starve on a trip to India with half as many supplies as he should have taken.
+Normon Jayden He didn't underestimate the size, he just had not anticipated another land mass between Europe and Asia. He thought he would catch trade winds to India in less time than conventional overland routes.
+Click3tyClick well i mean historically he wasn't , he completely underestimated how big the size of earth was, if he didn't accidentally stumble into Haiti (which he didn't know was there) his ship would of ran out of supplies and everyone would of died. Also as long as he lived he refused to believe what he found was a new continent constantly claiming they were in the indies and went crazy.
Not sure I agree with your choice of colony. Sure, the Brazilian important
natural harbor is nice, but there is no way to get the juicy trade back
home. I would have gone for the Gold Coast, which is an absolute key
province. The Ivory Coast node is the only way to get asian trade into
Sevilla and is also a hub for most of eastern South America. After the Gold
Coast I'd try to get into the Caribbean asap, as that node is the only
other way to get American trade into Sevilla. For now I'd focus on painting
the Caribbean islands green (very high development on pretty much
everything compared to South America where it's usually around 3 and
tropical + only high value goods like sugar and tobacco) while keeping an
eye on the Cape. Good luck in the colonial race!
+BlackBobby69 Oh, one more hint, since it screwed me over: Don't violate the Pope's colonial treaty if your want papal influence. I thought it would just mean I colonized slower, but each colony gives you a stacking negative opinion modifier ("Violated the Treaty"). After just taking 4 provinces I ended up with -200 opinion with The Papal State decaying at ~2 per year -.-
+Belkak021 well, let's say i have 900 monarch points and the tech costs 800 which is usually something like that, and the tech you want has an idea group or you need a mil tech for wars
+Belkak021 i usually tech up if i am at like+70 from ahead of time :P

Guys, you are concentrating way too much on North Africa it's not getting
you anywhere or giving you anything. Think about it, that past couple of
wars have given you massive debt, destroyed your manpower, lowered your
religious unity, and created multiple rebellions. Even if you get control
of Sus trade node....so what? That mode is garbage, at best you could use
it to transport trade to Sevilla....but you have no trade that goes through
there. At the moment North Africa has hindered your progress massively.
Then they need to go to central Africa! Cmon why fight the North Africans with high coding costs and Craig trade goods when they can easily conquer Jolof and the other primitive country's? Worst thing you can do is to get involved in North Africa it's not worth it at all. Alright let me put it this way, the base country at the start of the game is stronger than it is now. They have like what, 10 more provinces? And their country is in massive debt with rebellions and threats everywhere. They fucked up.
Why don't they explore with Cristobal? Why don't they disband all the mercs
whilst sitting on 15k manpower? Why don't they raze down all the forts
(useless vs AI)? Why do they take ahistorical, distant overseas, expensive
to core crap from morocco?
AAAHHH!
+bubba200874426 That is very true. It just itches me because I play so differently! I would somehow try to get to the Genoa trade node, or carve up Castile with France or Aragon. If you consider the Sunni religion, the non accepted culture, the Berber Traditions, the uprisings and the high autonomy level I would say Africa is less than worthless to them.
+Masopust forts are only useless if you are in a war you know you won't lose. The provinces they took aren't distant overseas. The game is only historical until you unpause it the first time. Where would you have them expand? Colonizing is boring. This series is, first and foremost, entertainment. No one wants to watch 100 years of speed 2 colonization, and you can't be pausing every 15 seconds in multiplayer like most people do in single player.
A province that limits a non distant overseas province cant be distant
overseas,no mather how far you are. You can make a tendril from Lisboa to
Beijing and it wont be distant overseas, you could have taken that gold
mine.
No Generals Here [4] Tac Team Portugal - EU4 Multiplayer

Shen, it wouldn't be a bad idea to start recording videos in 60 fps, if
possible. Right now, I prefer Arumba's perspective just because of the
quality improvement.
Of course, it isn't necessary to record it like that.
+Whishkey I get what you're saying, but I'm selfishly hoping he doesn't because I want to watch EU4 in 1080p, but my computer/internet can't handle 1080p with 60fps D:
Instead of just removing Castile from the colonial race beat them up till
they have only a few coastal provinces left then make them your vassal.
Then you have another colonist basically and dominate the new world
+Will Mitchell i have done that on my portuguese campaign when el dorado cames out (but with leon). In 1670, almost all of the americas are mine, coastal africa, India and the spice island as well. And Australia of course.
+Narciso Daniel Shen does a lot of this on purpose. See "Barquelona".But hey, it could be worse. Want to annoy a Portuguese speaker really, really bad?Tell that Mexican joke. Swap Mexican with Portuguese. Keep the joke itself intact.
+Narciso Daniel Nah, it's no big deal, when shen played the Qing campaign on Vic2, he really never pronounced most Chinese names or places correctly...
+Narciso Daniel dude did you ever hear them try to annouce a german city right ? each time my ears bleed :Dthey never learn how to annouce it right.....
Colonization and Crying [12] Tac Team Portugal - EU4 Multiplayer
Welcome to Shenryyr2 plays Portugal with Arumba in Europa Universalis 4! In Tac Team we try to focus the discussion on our decisions and why they were ...
+Marco Zwinkels regarding the colony, because Portugal was focusing on South America and on the Indian Trade Route, only a handful of summer fishing outposts have existed, as the land was considered too inhospitable. Only Portugal Cove-St.Philip's thrived but even that was destroyed by the French and rebuilt by the English.
+Marco Zwinkels well, the treaty of Tordesillas gave us, the Portuguese, territorial rights in Canada, and there are maps and accounts pre-dating Giovanni Caboto landing, and even Colombo findings, calling those the New Lands of Cod Fish (Terra Nova do Bacalhau) ou Terra Corterialis, named after explorer João Vaz Corte-Real who was granted the Azores for the discovery in 1473. Sure, Britain has a much more detailed story to tell, but even them can't say for sure where the first landing happened, or who was in their ship on that voyage... That's medieval history accuracy in a nutshell :D
One time I played a game as Brandenburg so I can form glorious Prussia.
France got a union over Austria 6 months into the game. Quit 7 months into
the game.
France and Spain/Castille is a natural alliance for me
They tend to stay friendly to each other and remain friends trough the
entire game
Portugal is a freaking monster when it comes to it's alliances France,
Austria, England and Iberian wedding Spain...
Holy shit...I mean HOW THE FUCK can Portugal AI do that? Besides having
Brazil full size with 100% liberty desire for 50 years whilst both of them
are at peace
Seriously AI in the game just cheats...
+FlareKitteh Knowing Paradox the AI probably gets far less negative modifiers in allying major powers. Thats the only explanation I can think of for pathetic little Genoa to be able to ally France, Castille/Spain, and England
+jpc1918 In my games Hungary ALWAYS gets an alliance with 4-5 great powers. France, Austria, Spain, Muscovy... If I'm not careful they just might ally the goddamned Ottomans.
Blame Florida Man [6] Tac Team Portugal - EU4 Multiplayer

+kody miller You had some unlucky games. In my games, they get significantly slowed down by burgundy and austria, maybe spain. They achieve that extent only by early mid 1500s. Italy tends to leave HRE before any kind of expansion occurs there.
+Mikhail Solovyev By that point in my games they own all of France, some of Lowlands, Northern Italy, and for some reason they like to take Wessex. o.O xD
So in my France campaign, Castille took all of Portugal's holdings in in
Europe. It is around 1550 and all Portugal has is some land in Africa, one
set of islands in the Atlantic, and some colonies in the Caribbean and
Brazil.
+Bryan RMate. This is a game. When playing, more often than not, we completely disregard our political views on things.Autonomy IRL is sane... in the game? 0% AUTONOMY EVERYWHERE!Religion? Convert only for convenience and funzies; Protestant Pope, Muslim Portugal!Small, sane countries? Well, fuck that, let's blob and reform the Roman Empire! With bonus culturecide points! So, TL;DR: don't feel offended because someone made some choice with some country in the game you wouldn't like to see in real life...
