The Faith, Reason and World Affairs Symposium addresses issues of global significance. This year's theme is "Beyond Genocide: Learning to Help and Hope" ...
I think that there is no problem with her speaking about her opinions. She
was brave enough to come online on cam and speak. Most people won't show
their faces, much less speak about how they feel. And this girl is very
intelligent and has many good views. I don't think that homosexuality is
necessarily wrong. God's answer to a barren earth was procreation. Now that
the earth is being overpopulated and is getting over capacity, don't you
think that God's new solution might be homosexuality?
Her views are hurtful even if she doesn't intend them to be. She tries to
be nice about it, but it's just dressing up bigotry. I don't totally blame
her though because she is correctly following the Bible. It's just that the
Bible has bigoted views. It's books were made in the bronze, and iron ages
where women we treated like property, and they thought illnesses were
demons. This is what happens when you blindly believe anything without
evidence. You are open to supporting horrible views.
Her foundation is flimsy. I agree that she was rather open and willing to
listen, but not compromise. I draw a line when she protests abortion being
against homosexual relations is bad enough, but when she campaigns against
abortion she is actively campaigning for something which causes harm. She
has a right to voice her opinions and as you said I don't agree with her. I
am not protesting her right to free speech I am saying that what she spouts
is harmful and that is my free speech.
Take a look at nature, for instance. Animals are innocent and don't do
anything wrong. They make choices based on instinct. What happens if there
are too many animals in one setting and not enough room to keep having
babies? They start mating up, pairs. Females pair up with females and males
pair up with males. I mean look at dolphins. I know some people like to
judge others on their sexual orientation (preference) but we should love
them the way God loves all of us! :) #MUCHLOVE
that can be understandable. but at least she has her reasons for doing what
she does and has a foundation from where she is coming from and it's not a
place of hate like one might expect. the reason we were nice to her was
because she does present herself as a very admirable person and is willing
to listen not just preach. she has as much of a right to voice herself as
any of us on the channel. it doesn't mean you have to agree with her.
Does being a christian excuse people's bigotry? Of course not. I find it
curious that Americans use the term 'conservative' like it's a legitimate
thing that excuses bigotry e.g. 'I believe gays are evil but I'm
conservative, it's just what I believe'. What does one do when it comes to
bigots using religion to excuse their despicable notions?
I agree SGB, People have too much faith in a book they call truth but has
been shaped and translated by generations of humans.... humans... before
them. To an extent that have more faith in the honesty of Humanity than the
"word of god". This is why I have made a few videos about the futility of
religion as public law.
You ask them to take their bible out of the equation and what are they left
with? If that leaves them as a rude turd then that's what they are. The
bible has nothing to do with it. I don't go up to straight people and tell
them who to have sex with.
in this case, we invited Rebecca to hang out with us in order to have a
civil dialogue on our differing views. While we disagreed with her views on
homosexuality, we respect her right to express those views in the way she
has.
I got to say it is nice that you are being so friendly with her but I got
to call BS when she put her foot in the door of abortion. Her beliefs lead
to harm and are just terrible.
I say this when it comes to takeing bible (in my case Qur'an) out of the
out of context. Over all I don't care, its your lifes so carry on Only God
can jugle.
