Jason Becker interview with his Original Carvin Guitars and Demo
Take a close look at Jason Becker's original late 80's Carvin guitars. Jason's father, Gary Becker speaks on his behalf of Jason with his prepared words about ...
I want to see Jason play those guitars the way they are meant to be played.
I am not familiar with ALS, But I hope he can recover.
He is mush stronger than me because if I could not play music because of an
illness I would not want to live.
+Teague Prower BTW that Kahler Pro bridge/trem is not only on the purple sticker guitar, it's also on "Bluie"; the blue on w the flamed maple top. They're both Carvin DC200's from the late 1980's with Kahler Pro trems instead of Floyd Rose, which was available from Carvin at the time. They carried both by the time Jason bought his. When I bought my koa DC150K, about 2-3 years earlier, they only offered the Kahlers. I'm glad I bought it with that trem. Easier to use and much more precise setup options.
+Teague Prower No prob. Also convenient is how adjustable it is. You can adjust on 3 axis': up/down for setting action.... side to side for string spacing to match nut and pup poles... and forward-backward to set intonation. Just never use Ernie Ball strings, they contantly slip out of tune. Elixirs are perfect.
+Teague Prower Yeah those are part of the string locking mechanism. Under those flip locks are three screw down shims just like an actual locking nut, but you only give these screws a light half turn until you feel the first hint of tightness, the you pop the levers down over them. Its a very easy system, as you can see the bridge is self contained and theres no routing thru to the back of the guitar. String changing is easy and theres no clipping of ball ends.
Its the Kahler Pro floating trem. Used to be more popular than the Floyd until Floyd sued them. I have one on my 1985 DC150 stereo in solid koa.
