Could save a lot of pain and trouble
The Inspire one uses optical flow and sonar to determine its position when
it does not have a GPS 3D lock (indoors) If the floor is very uniform in
color and does not have much of a pattern on it the flow sensor (basically
a very low megapixel camera will twist until it detects a change in the
floor picture its using to maintain position. The craft doing something
different than expected in doors should have tipped you off that something
did not calibrate correctly.
Regarding the outdoors part, I cant see your hands or control inputs so its
hard to say for sure. The reason you want to calibrate every time you move
does not have much to do with geography. Its more environmental,
specifically the electromagnetic environment.
If you are going to put down $3,000 for something, even if its for work,
calibration and safety check are a must.
+Elvan Wilson I do like the 3DR. I've already ordered an inspire 1, so we will see how that goes. I really don't think I'm going to be able to get used to only having one camera. I'm ordering the two controller setup for a big job here in CR. Ill make enough in one weekend of filming girls and surfers at the beach to pay for the rig..... Once that's done, if I cant get used to not having my own pilot cam, Ill go with the 3DR and sell the Inspire as they hold their value pretty good. Flying my hexa through the rain forest is no fun with all the vines and tough leaves.... I am buying CF props, tiger motors and motor mounts by the dozen..... I need something smaller that can fly low over foliage without too much prop-wash blowing everything around or sandblasting wedding parties at the beach, or scaring everyone because it sounds like a lawnmower in the air. The director will be telling the models to relax and ignore it..... ignore that 1 meter wheel of spinning carbon fiber knifes that is directly over your head...... At least the DJI looks finished, unlike any of the DIY stuff I fly. People tend to think they are cool rather that terified of that flying thing with all lind of wires and do-dads plopped on the top of it.I have a huge quad 1200mm with 15 inch props that does really well with the PIXHAWK FC. Overkill for a GoPro on a 3x gimbal and a Mobius for the flight-cam.The portability is a selling point for me with the Inspire and the gimbal performance is rock solid.
Why would anyone fly with the landing gear lowered? I am no real pilot or
physics scientist, but common sense would tell anyone that raising the
propellers would hugely increase the stability. We all heard of the center
of mass, didn't we? As for the videos done inside, how exactly did you
manage to get green lights?... most buildings I've entered would restrict
me from getting more than 2-3 satellites. Well, you should consider
yourself lucky with such a small damage... imagine going 500 m altitude and
see it drifting while there (note that wind of 5 m/s at ground level does
not mean much when your I1 is at a few hundreds meters up in the air).
Hi, in terms of landing gear it does not affect flying, only camera view. Tested it outside with 6 m/s wind both ways, it's stable as hell. Flying inside, it does not connect to satellites, rather uses camera, that's located underneath, ultrasonic sensor that's too located underneath, gyro and compass to position and stabilize.
+Pete Larson They were not trying to cover his face. They were just trying to cover his hands on the control which would have showed exactly his stick movement. This was done on purpose to make this quad copter(DJI) look bad. There are companies out there that would do this to make the others look bad. All the videos on youtube right now showing the Inspire 1 crashing are either all fake, on purpose, or pilot error.
