My Mazda 3 comes with the MZR 2.0 L engine. MZR is the brand name of a generation of Straight-4 engines ENGINEERED and BUILT by the Mazda Motor Corporation.. The Ford Motor Company owns rights to build and use the MZR engines under their Duratec brand name. As of 2011, Mazda discontinued development of the MZR engines to be replaced by their new SkyActiv engines. Ford continues to develop and manufacture variants of the MZR engine for their Duratec and EcoBoost four-cylinder engines.

Sergei, Why are you wanting to get rid of your current pick-up truck? it is always handy to have a vehicle to be able to carry spare parts around for the big truck if needed. you can always claim it as a tax deduction if you us it to pickup spares or oils for the inter. being out on the road most of the time means you are probably not doing too many miles in it anyway. I like your ute, I have a Mitsubishi Triton crew cab. Handy for putting stuff in the back and for towing trailers.

nice review. and the best way to look for a new car... i.e. test drive them all. Another thing to consider is the dealership's customer service. You can have the best and most popular reliable car, but if the dealership - customer relation is not good, it will be a thorn in the ownership of the vehicle. We have the 5 (mine), the 3 with 2.0 L (daughter) and the 2 (son's). The computer lag is like playing Tennis. After a while, you learn to hit the 'sweet spot' all the time.

You made me really curious. II will look into this. There should be a sticker somewhere in the engine compartment of my new Mazda3 saying who actually MANUFACTURED the engine. I wasn't able to find anything on the Internet. Will investigate on the ground ;) and report here. Stay tuned.

Well, I hope you're right and your car lasts a looooong time :) I personally don't trust stickers seeing as for example the so called German engineering VW's are being put together in Mexico and brought to the states, and my Mazda so called Japanese car had a Ford engine in it :(

The 2012 Mazdas 3 are built in Japan (according to the sticker on the door frame). Not sure who makes the engine. 2012 models should be more reliable than 2003s, because those high-paid engineers at the Mazda in Japan must have been doing something to improve the car ;)

Sergei I just lost a lot of money on a Mazda 6, they are terrible man the engines suck! I don't know about the newer Mazda's but I had a '03 v6 with a manual trans. The engine was done at 90k I will never trust another Mazda, be careful ;)

I'm not trying to say that the new engines are done the same way but, but there is always a possibility, I learned the hard way :-x

ok from what I understand, Mazda still uses Ford engines for the v6, I don't know about 4 cylinder cars though.

Oh yeah i forgot to mention the engine was a Ford engine, not Japanese like I thought :\
