Because NFL films music and the voice of John Facenda were used for the
1980 Phillies season highlights film....their film might be the best one
ever created for a MLB team!!
slightly misleading as the impression is given that the Phils dominated the
whole season. Not true . They struggled mid season and were just a few
games over .500 in August.

1980 World Series, Game 6: Royals @ Phillies
Kansas City Royals 1 at Philadelphia Phillies 4, F -- With the Phillies just one tantalizing out away from a Championship, Tug McGraw got ahead on Willie Wilson ...
+Bazarov The police were ready and lined the field here to prevent the fans from rushing onto it. They didn't want the same thing that happened at Yankees stadium in the previous few years to occur in Philly...
+nymike06 The AL West was too good back then, I remember the Royals winning 92 games in 1989 but the A's were so good obviously we fell a few games short.
+nymike06 You know who had UGLY uniforms? The early 1980s Chicago White SOX. There's a driver I talk to at my job about baseball who said the former White Sox owner was a little crazy anyway, lol. Not sure when they got rid of those ugly uniforms, but I know by the late 80s I believe, they were gone. The Yankees were winning a lot of games in the 80s, but they could never win the division, which was the only way to get to the playoffs back then, and there was only 2 divisions per league. The AL East was stacked with 4 or 5 good teams per year that won atleast 85 games or more. By the late 80s to the early 90s, is when they hit rock bottom.
+spinnernet1 1980's baseball was fabulous. You're right about the Dodgers being the only team to win it twice and just think the Yankees won more games than anyone in the 80's and never had a World Series title to show for it. Overall, the 80's produced some incredible games.
+nymike06 I'll have to check that out. I think the Red Sox fans in 2004 WOULD have rushed the field if the series was clinched in Boston, but the game 4 sweep finished in St. Louis. So they didn't get a chance. After 86 years, I think it would have happened. Even in 2007, the game 4 sweep was clinched in Colorado. Was just looking up a couple of World Series highlight videos, and I see Cardinals fans also rushed the field in 1964. And I see Boston fans rushed the field after the Red Sox won their final regular season game of 1967. But I think they had to wait to see if the Tigers would lose later in the night. I'm an Angels fan. That franchise was known for blowing playoff series (like 1982 and 1986). You know, the 2002 Angels-Giants series set a record for most runs scored in the WS at 85. One of the most bizarre WS was 1960. The Pirates beat the Yanks in 7 despite getting outscored something like 55 to 27. That had one of the best game 7s ever. I love 1970s baseball. So many great teams in that decade. A's, Reds, Yanks, Dodgers,Orioles, Royals, Pirates. But I'm falling more and more in love with 80s baseball. A lot of teams won championships in that decade. I think only the Dodgers won more than one. Hell, it was the last time the Orioles, Tigers, Dodgers, Royals and Mets won it all. That might change this year with either the Mets or Royals. But Toronto might have something to say about that.
+spinnernet1 I'm a devout Yankees fan in baseball. What's funny is that over the past week, I too was thinking about the days of when the fans would rush the field after a pennant or WS win. I always thought it was cool and made the celebration even more pronounced. Those days appear to be long gone. I thought maybe the fans in Boston would of done it but they didn't. That comedian Artie Lange, was on a talk show awhile back, it's also on youtube, telling a funny story about his late father encouraging him to run on the field after the Yankees won the 1977 World Series in NY. If you got time, you can look it up on here
+nymike06 I see you have "NY" in your username. Are you a Mets or Yankees fan or both or none? I'm glad nobody got hurt, but I loved the old days when fans stormed the field. The '69 and '73 Mets clinching the WS and pennant was known for that. Also, the 1976 Yanks winning the pennant in dramatic fashion had fans storming the field. Also, the 1982 World Series with Cardinals fans and I think the '84 Series with Detroit. Obviously, it wouldn't happen today, but I loved those times.
+spinnernet1 I agree, they had very nice uniforms. Their warm up jackets in that time period were one of nicest, if not the best, up there w/ the Yankees.
+TERRY DAVIS Nowhere in the rules does it say tie goes to the runner. That's a myth. The runner has to beat the ball to the bag or he is out. Tie goes to the runner applies in softball rules.
That broadcast partner was Richie "Whitey" Ashburn. He was never afraid to get on an ump. Grew up listening to these two. Never get enough of these old broadcasts. Miss them both here in Philly.
+Chris Barat thats is why I am not watching it agaiN!...1977 I was eating dinner and watching this in the 9th inning....I went outside and puked after the top of the 9th...
+Jason Richards Buckner should have never gotten the grief he did, the score was tied when he made his error, they may very well have lost anyway. Bob Stanley should have gotten the criticism for blowing the lead.
At least Phils fans didn't turn on Greg Luzinski, like Red Sox fans did on Buckner.Did Danny Ozark ever explain why he didn't insert Jerry Martin in left? I've always assumed he simply forgot.
