The Interservice Physician Assistant Program at Fort Sam Houston trains members from all branches of the military to be world class healthcare praticioners.
@JDisStrange: JD, I am not in the military now, but am I am civilian medic
(RN/EMT) who tried to get into the USN as a FMF corpsman. I was a year over
the age cutoff, however, and was rejected.I am applying to PA school now,
and hope to serve afterward. Interested in emergency and operational
medicine, being in the field as much as possible, i.e. battalion aid
station, or simlar. Any recommendations or comments. My late dad was USN,
so I am biased that way, but would so army also.
I searched the IPAP website for course prerequisites, but to no avail. Does
anybody know the IPAP course prereqs. I completed Gen. Chem I and Gen. Bio
I, Psychology, Stats, but need to complete the upper-class science courses.
Do I need to complete the same prereqs for a civilian PA program. I just
know a recruiter is gonna try to get me to go enlisted and then find my own
way into IPAP 4 years later, if I'm lucky.
is it true that the chance of an enlisted e4 68w10 has very little chance
of getting accepted applying it for the first time? seeing that the
selection results mostly consist of E5 and above and O ranks. sm has a BS
in biology, 1 yr line medic deployment under belt, cmb, aam and relatively
strong SAT and a B+ undergrad GPA/science GPA. anyone's help would be much
appreciated.
@mcnitl can you tell us if you were reserve, Active or guard? I hear that
selection for this program is only for enlisted. I'd hate to have to go
back in enlisted if Ive already worked on my degree. Any help would be
great.
I am currently a senior at Texas A&M and will finish with a BS in Nutrition
in August of 2012. I'm not in the service as of now. Is the IPAP availbable
to me? I'm very interested!
Yes, you must be an NCO, currently I believe E5 or higher. It is enlisted
only..officers would have to apply to a civilian PA program and qualify for
DUINS.

Im currently joining the army reserve and this video is very very much
useful. Cleared up so many questions and one more question after i joined
the army reserve. how long do i have to wait before i can start applying?
+Jay Chen I believe you need to be at your duty station or unit for 2 years upon the time of start for the program, so you may be able to begin the application program a year after you join or so, as long as you do not leave your unit to begin training before the 24 month mark.
