+Jack johnson I played an hour of Mad Max and then I decided to play Phantom Pain and Phantom Pain is really fun, they're a few references to Ground Zeroes so I'm not that completely lost but, I know after I beat this game I would want to go explore other Metal Gear games but, thanks for the advice.
definitely play Mgs3 and Mgs:pw first then play the phantom pain ( ground zeros is on the list too but since u played it then ur good), the story is complicated but one of the best out there , if u jump in to TPP without any background info you won't be enjoying this game im tellin ya.
+Jigsaw LetsPlay Great my friend I hope you enjoy both games and if it happens you own a Playstation 4 and want to add me here is my PSN : hiltonchristos . We can team up or if you want beef we can go to war... Your choice ! ;)
+Chris Tsirigotis I played all the side missions in Zeroes I enjoyed the game (even when I had some frustrating moments) but, right now with the different feedback from ppl it looks like I will be playing Phantom Pain, Mad Max looks fun and it might not be bad game and most WB games tend to be good to excellent.
+Jigsaw LetsPlay People say Ground Zeroes is small... You know there are other mission except the story mode like side ops or exploring the map..etc. Sure , an experienced player can finish the game fast but an average type of gamer wil take his time and that's the beauty of the game ! It is bad that Ground Zeroes was expensive though but it's not a bad game...Actually , it serves its purpose well , as a prologue mission that is ! Why not play them both anyway ? I mean , both games look great but in the end it's all a matter of personal prefernce . What game do you like the most : Mad Max or MGS V ? If you want a new IP then maybe you should get Mad Max but in my opinion MGSV is a masterpiece and I don't see Mad Max reaching it ! Well it depends... MGS V has microtransactions which is a really bad thing , I just hope Konami won't ruin this awesome game ! Will see...
+Constipated 5%er I played Ground Zeroes and I liked it but, it was too short and I know Phantom will be a good game but, Mad Max is a new IP and I don't know if I would like it or not but, it would be worth giving it a shot...maybe
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Gameplay Impressions - The First 13 Hours
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain gameplay impressions. We've played it for 13 hours, and here's everything you need to know in regards to how we felt ...
+Janne Tyni If you want to get into the competitive multiplayer and infiltrate other player bases then perhaps you should choose the format where most of your friends are?
I have the HD collection, and as far as I can tell the only difference is it doesn't contain mgs1 or the VR missions. The VR missions are fun but not essential. Also, metal gear 1 and 2 are different games to metal gear solid 1 and 2. The original metal gear series came out in the late 80's on the msx and played way differently. I personally haven't been able to get into them, but story wise they're pretty essential so I'd recommend YouTube. In the timeline they take place just after phantom pain and just before metal gear solid 1.
The Legacy Collection includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 4 Trophy Edition and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD EditionAlso includes Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions via included voucher codes. And its only 10 dollars more than the Hd collection and you said I should play the rest I think the Legacy collection would be the way to go but are the rest of the games worth playing?
I think they're basically the same but the HD collection doesn't include mgs1, but you can pick that up off psn for like a fiver. Personally I'd just go with whichever you find cheapest.
+Ollypop_x And yeah dude I can see why people really love it its just so different than anything else out there looks like it has some of the best characters and story's that other games couldn't even ever replicate
I'm kinda jealous that you haven't played any of them, I'd love to experience them all for the first time again. also cool that you get to play them in order of the timeline, rather than by the year they were released, that's bound to make it less confusing. Don't forget to play mgs1, 2 and 4 once you've finished phantom pain :P
I just watched the whole Metal Gear Solid 3 full story and now Ima buy the Hd collection and MGS5. Snake Eater is probably the best story I ever seen in a game and weirdest to has a lot of random shit that hurts my head to even wonder but it was still really good and the characters are the best part of the story totally just found a reason to keep my PS3. Thank you guys tho for the help I legit watched like 4 hours of all the Snake Eater cut scenes and seen the full story of that so Ima play that myself then play Peace Walker and rent Ground Zeros and then buy the Phantom pain.
No problem :) it's my favourite franchise, so I'm kinda biased lol but I'd say go for it. Just a warning though, the controls of the earlier games can be kinda difficult to get used to.
+Jesco White I will admit I do have time to look into it but I wonder how much of all that will be easy for me to get wait so first I play MGS 3 then Peace Walker then 5 right? All that work tho just to understand what is going on I really love games that make it easy to get for the newer players but oh well.
phantom pain is set pretty early on in the mgs timeline, so you only really need to play mgs3 and peace walker to know what's going on. If after that you're still struggling there's always Wikipedia. It certainly isn't the easiest story to follow, but it's totally worth it if your willing to put the time in.
+J May Well it's nice though that there's at least one game that does it this way. Games overall tend to have very thin story-telling, and there's nothing to discuss really when you've experienced them. Metal Gear on the other hand brings up new and interesting themes with every new iteration and there's always something to discuss. A big part of the experience is to really pay attention to the events that unfold and try understand to their underlying messages. The story and characters are at the core of what makes these games so unique. Try to get in the mindset of really exploring every detail of them and I think you will start to get the hang of things. There sure are a lot of characters and subplots to keep track of, but eventually it will start to make sense.
+Jesco White Its way to hard to understand tho man these developers and writers make it way to hard I even heard even if you still play them all and understand them the next games will still be confusing even tho I really like Metal Gear Solid but I just don't know about it man
+Kody Crittenden AGGGH to much work its not like I have better things to do but I bet even after all that it will still be confusing like I play Assassins Creed 4 and loved the fuck outa it but all the complicated story I couldn't stand the story I just couldn't understand it at all so I looked some stuff up about it like the animus and all that and still could not understand it at all I just hate wasting my time.
+John S9ldier the metal gear story is long and can be complicated since the time period jumps all over the place like this game is a prequel to some of the others i say just google it or youtube the story and once you get this game you wil be ok
+John S9ldier Indeed it does. And it kind of has to, considering how everything is about to tie up with past games in the series. The first Metal Gear follows Solid Snake as he tries to take Big Boss down. He has then become the villain that we are about to se unfold in The Phantom Pain. So it's kinda like a "Darth Vader" story, but a bit more transparent when it comes to the moral side of it.
+Niklas Lundgren Wow that's pretty cool I didn't get that while playing it but she died at the end with the bomb which was sad I can just tell by playing a little of the game it goes more darker places than other games I seen with involving kids and such.
+John S9ldier Well it follows the event of Peace Walker where a young girl betrayed them and then was captured by an unknown organization. To rescue her is the main objective of Ground Zeroes. And the young boy in the cell (Chico) tried to rescue her but ended up being captured himself. The main reason that you want to get them out of there is because they know a great deal about Boss' mother base and secret operations.
+Niklas Lundgren But ey man I just have 1 more question I played Ground Zeros and I couldn't understand a thing was that game supposed to make any sense or was it something for the fans that played all the other Metal Gear games?
+Niklas Lundgren Omg yes man did you see the one where like Snake has something stuck in his head like a horn and his face was bleeding all over he looked like the Devil then punched the mirror that was epic af and thanks for the help btw
+John S9ldier Yes, I believe so. The only thing that you really need to know is that Big Boss has been used and mistreated by the US government and various military organizations. His base of operations was attacked and now he seeks revenge on those who destroyed his home and murdered his men. After everything he's been through he's slowly starting to become insane, as shown in many of the trailers.
+John S9ldier Yeah to get into every single detail is a bit overwhelming, but there is a backstory option in the menus that tell you about the most important parts. The main plot points are actually pretty straight-foward. And overall the story is not nearly as complicated as the Solid Snake games.

I agree, it is a lot darker in comparison to previous MGS games and I have to say I don't mind it at all, I hope the endings good tho, that's all I can hope for now..I hope there's no cliff hangers this time and I hope snake dies, not that I want him to but if this is suppose to be the last MGS game then I feel that's how it's gona end, a man dying for what he believed in.
+zeke zameron lol! Yeah, even when playing through the games it sometimes seems like they're talking in riddles.. On a side note, this new one seems to be a bit more horror themed almost when compared to the previous ones. The previous Metal Gear games all had a mysterious and kind of spooky theme to them, but so far having played through GZ and the first 3 and a half missions or so, Phantom Pain seems darker and the villains shown so far seem almost like they're from a game like F.E.A.R or something.
+Johhny E yea I did the same thing, I played threw GZ and after a little while I sold it cuz there wasn't much to do but yes even I'm fuzzy on the details from mgs4 but I'd rather just watch a playthrough then read about it, just my personal preference..reading about MGS for some reason confuses me cuz half the time there speaking in riddles.
+zeke zameron Yeah, that's true. But there's many places to go online to find videos or written out stories that cover the whole Metal Gear story line. I was actually thinking of finding some of those because I never got to play Metal Gear 4 all the way through, and it's been so long since I played the others that the history is pretty fuzzy for me. Hell, I only played through Ground Zeroes the other day because I found out I could cross over the save file, I pre ordered GZ but sold it immediately after I found out it was an hour long, or less, so I could still get decent trade for it. lol
No you wouldn't be caught up cuz I've played ground zero and it leaves A LOT of shit out, and even if it did have all the info from every single MGS game before this, reading about it and actually playing threw it and experiencing this amazing story is two different things.
+zeke zameron Actually all you would need to do is get Ground Zeroes and watch/read the backstory from the main menu, play through GZ and you would be caught up. You can even transfer your save file from Ground Zeroes to Phantom pain for some additional in game items.
if you've never played any of the past games, there's literally no reason for you to buy this game, you'll be more confused on the story then watching the tv show "lost"..save your money & buy a different game.
+Bupp Stewart Like MAD MAX said, you should get Ground Zero first. Whichever system you play it on you will be able to transfer your save from Ground Zero to Phantom Pain and get extra in game items when you start Phantom Pain.
+bigpoison408 Well, allow me to retort. I said what I said because I'm one of those people; I wish I had a PS4 to play The Phantom Pain on. Now, I'm having a hard time understanding why you said "Your a dumb bitch it looks good on last gen bitch", so help me understand. Do you have a PS4? Do you realise it's a fact that it looks and plays better on PS4 than on any other console? You come across like somebody who owns a PS4 and doesn't want to hear people on a last-gen console complain. Yeah, the PS3 and 360 versions still look great, but whatever. And if you too are playing on an older system, I question why you wouldn't WANT to play on PS4. Also, do you understand that for whatever reason you directed your ill-conceived statement at me is the same reason you could have directed it at +Derp Stick? So you telling him "No kINGJADEX" makes no sense; if you're calling me out, you're calling him out. Alright, I'm done.
[Gaming] Was MGS V leaked to retailers early? (Rumor)
MGS V will be the biggest game of 2015, and if this rumor is true, the next few weeks will be a spoiler minefield around the web. Thankfully it looks like its full of ...
i know it came out 7 years ago, like fallout 3, new vegas came out 2010, ground zero came out last year, your move. there is more hype around fallout then mgs V
+Ewan Zombrex No offense, but are you being stupid on purpose or just trolling around?MGS 4 came out in June 2008, 7 years ago. The last Fallout to come out, (New Vegas) came out in October 2010, 5 years ago.Not that it matters, at this point we're both arguing taste, and we all should know how pointless it is. I respect that you love Fallout more than MGS, they're both very popular franchises, but for me, MGS is one of the most important IP's in the history of gaming, hence why I'm so looking forward to this one.
+Helder Pintowhy metal gear solid IV came out a couple years ago, its been somthing like 6 or 7 years since last fallout, last Bethesda rpg of that style was 4 years ago with skyrim.nothing makes this metal gear solid that special apart from kojima leaving (and i know hes a genious) but fallout is definitely a larger game
