"Rescued Dogs" Documentary in progress @ Desert C.A.M. Studios
A Winmill Films Production in association with Philip Gittleman
Productions, and presented by Desert C.A.M. Studios. Executive Producers
are Chip Miller and Donald Pinckston. Travis Miller and Philip Gittleman
are Producers. Final doc will be directed by Philip Gittleman and Chip
Miller.
This is a short prototype sampler of a work in progress at DCAM Studios.
The completed project will be a feature-length film doc about animal
hoarding - a serious problem that faces every community in this country.
The essence of the film will be captured in its first 60 seconds with a
tender montage of the faces of the rescued dogs in their new family
environments. An emphasis will be put on their bonds with the children of
these adoptive families, and include statements from experts and newspaper
headlines. We hope to capture these new
relationships and seek to understand what our children think about this all
too common problem and what can be done to change things. Their fresh
perspective will add a dimension to the film that would otherwise be absent
if we focused solely on the professionals.
A celebrity host will punctuate these images, announcing the little known
facts, that there are almost 8000 hoarding incidents victimizing more than
250,000 animals, every year in America. This documentary is a portrait of
those who rescue these poor animals contrasted with the stories of three
serial hoarders in America. Itʼs a detective story that seeks to understand
their pathology. But most importantly we see how a determined group of
people can leverage their numbers and harness the power of social media to
force the
governmental/political system into action. The stories we will document
prove that "one person really can make a difference."
Coupled with its serious message, this film will conclude in a joyful visit
to the shelters that prepare these animals to be placed with adoptive
families. As with the beginning of the film, we'll end on a montage of
scenes of adopted dogs with their new young, human companions. In the
beginning, viewers will meet an outstanding cast of men and women who will
paint the national picture, the scope and scale of animal hoarding. The
visuals will graphically tell the story of what price these animals pay for
their neglect. Our
experts will be drawn from the most distinguished institutions in the
country. They will include the men and women who were part of the Hoarding
of Animals Consortium that spent 10 years collaborating and studying the
issues, of hoarders.
Are they sick or are they criminal? Or are they sick criminals?
They represent many different perspectives - animal welfare and humane law
enforcement, forensic psychiatry, social work and rehabilitation,
veterinary medicine, hoarding psychology and intervention. They will
underscore that there is heavy price for the hoarding practice, foremost,
in the lives of the animals, but there is also a price paid by society, in
emotional and financial terms.
