As we start back up, we're trying something out. You might notice the [HD]
marker going forward. It's not REALLY HD, but it should be a visual
increase at some level.
Annoying technical details below.
The Vita has a native resolution of 960x544. Why 544? Because 960x540 is a
16:9 aspect and would be too normal? I cut 4 pixels off the bottom when
capturing, recording at 960x540 or 540p. Note that because capture is
obtained from a kitted Vita, and not a PSTV, I don't get upscale from the
hardware.
Up to now, all CnSiE videos were hard-sub encoded and uploaded at 540p.
Unfortunately, Youtube does not support 540p. They got 244p, 360p, 480p,
and 720p. So basically Youtube has been down-ressing the CnSiE videos from
their native 540p to 480p. While annoying, attempts to 720p upscale on
source, or during the hard-sub encode have not resulted in any observable
improvements until now.
Beginning now, though, the methods being used here for upscale finally
produce beneficial results as you can down view the upscaled 720p source in
a reduced window size to obtain better quality than the down-ressed 480p
encode. This also means that an improved audio stream encode will be
available too, as the 480p Youtube re-encodes reduce the bitrate for audio
as well.
This is still experimental though so please let us know if there are any
issues with video quality.
