Peter Jackson - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Interview HD
Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - With The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hitting theatres, director Peter Jackson is reaching his 18th ...
I must admit, that I prefer Peter Jackson's movies over the book. I think,
that he and his co-writers Boyens and Walsh made the right choices, when
they adapted the story. There is no sensation in that. Sometimes a cover
version of a wonderful song is just somewhat better than the orginal
version. And sometimes a story is improved, when it is adapted by others.
Tolkien's books remain classics and some of the best books ever written.
But I love movies more than books. Peter Jackson's two trilogies (I have no
doubt when i comes to the third Hobbit movie) will always be personal
favourites of mine.
+Beautiful Night I agree. The Hobbit was a hard book to adapt and it would not work as 1 film, nor 2 I think its interesting how they split the book into 3rds and then weaved in plot threads that lead to The Lord of the Rings and they did stick closely to the book even though The Hobbit is 3 films. An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies make a great trilogy :) Leads nicely into Lord of the Rings well done Peter Jackson :)
+Wipsnipidy You're right about that. And you also can't follow the book 100%, when you intend to make an adult version of a children's book. The tone has to be changed, and so has some of the dialogue and even some of the events.
Exactly!! The characterisation, particularly of the dwarves whom i found quite lacking in that respect in the books, was great!! You can't just take the book and do a direct copy to film. it just just wouldn't work.

It wasn't finished yet when The Abyss came out, but that played at the single-screen theater (which is now gone) which I show in another video. This theater opened on December 22, with only 4 out of 6 screens finished, it would take another couple weeks for them all to be open. The first movie that started, which I saw was "Blaze" with Paul Newman. The other movies playing were She-Devil, Family Business and War of the Roses.
